The experience has been a ‘reality Czech,” she said, and very rewarding.

  • BGSU trustees approve two new degree programs for emerging career pathways Dec 7, 2018 3:37 PM The BGSU Board of Trustees at its Dec. 7 meeting approved two new degree programs, both aimed at meeting workforce needs and providing additional career opportunities for BGSU graduates. The upcoming Bachelor of Science in resort and attraction management and the Bachelor of Arts in physics will prepare students for in-demand jobs.

  • BGSU to hold commencement Friday, Saturday Dec 7, 2018 1:32 PM The University will celebrate its 293rd graduation in two ceremonies in the Stroh Center Friday (Dec. 14) and Saturday (Dec. 15). The December graduating class includes 1,001 candidates Alumnae Maryrose Sylvester and Jan Heppe will address the degree candidates.

  • BGSU president to deliver his first State of the University address Dec 4, 2018 11:00 AM Bowling Green State University President Rodney K. Rogers will deliver his first State of the University address since becoming president in February. The address will take place at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday (December 5) in the Lenhart Grand Ballroom at the Bowen-Thompson Student Union. All are welcome to attend.

  • Class of 2018 Success Stories: Brandon Peebles plans to make an impact in criminal justice Dec 3, 2018 4:18 PM The criminal justice program at BGSU attracted graduate student Brandon Peebles because he wants to make a positive impact in the community. Peebles credits his experiences and opportunities at BGSU for landing a full-time youth adviser position with the Juvenile Residential Center of Northwest Ohio.

  • BGSU Rugby celebrates 50 years by winning championship Dec 2, 2018 6:00 PM The Bowling Green State University rugby team is celebrating its 50th anniversary in style. The Falcons defeated St Joseph’s University (Philadelphia) 26-7 on Sunday (December 2) in Charlotte, North Carolina, to win the fall 2018 men’s D1AA national championship. The Falcons defense smothered the Hawks all game.

  • BGSU names Scot Loeffler new football coach Nov 30, 2018 3:00 PM BGSU handed over the keys to Doyt Perry Stadium to Scot Loeffler, who has coached in 15 bowl games. Now, Loeffler has been tasked with leading the Falcons back to the Mid-American Conference (MAC) championship at Ford Field in Detroit, where they last won the MAC title in 2015.

  • BGSU introduces Scot Loeffler as new football coach Nov 29, 2018 3:48 PM Scot Loeffler has been named the head coach of the BGSU football program. Loeffler comes to Bowling Green after serving as deputy head coach and offensive coordinator at Boston College. Loeffler's coaching career includes stops at Michigan, Central Michigan, Florida, Temple, Auburn, Virginia Tech and Boston College.

  • BGSU Men’s Rugby to play in championship December 2 Nov 28, 2018 3:48 PM The Bowling Green State University upset the top-ranked program, Mary Washington, 40-39 on November 19 in the national fall Men's Rugby D1AA semifinals. Their reward? A spot in the D1AA national collegiate final against St Joseph’s University (Philadelphia) on December 2 in Charlotte.

  • A Golden Partnership Nov 21, 2018 1:31 PM For a half-century, BGSU and the University of Salzburg have had a partnership. Nearly 1,500 students have benefitted from the Academic Year Abroad exchange program between the two universities. In June, some 70 of those Salzburg program alumni and others affiliated with the programs gathered in Salzburg to celebrate the milestone.

  • Bowling Green State University returns ancient mosaics to the Republic of Turkey Nov 20, 2018 4:51 PM Twelve pieces of ancient mosaics in Bowling Green State University’s art collection are being packed for their return to the Republic of Turkey. Representatives of BGSU and the Turkish government marked the return of the artifacts at a news conference Nov. 20 in the University’s Wolfe Center for the Arts, where the mosaics have been on display.

Matney has been intensely involved in statewide teacher professional development and international collaboration.

Among them were students, alumni and a staff member. The new citizens heard from keynote speaker Magdy AbouZied, associate director of University Dining Services, who came to the U.S. from Egypt.

  • BGSU Women’s Soccer bows out of NCAA Tournament Nov 10, 2018 8:30 AM BGSU Women's Soccer fell to host Penn State 4-1 on Friday night (Nov. 9) at Jeffrey Field. The Falcons (14-5-3) ended the season tying the school single-season record for wins, and setting new records for fewest losses and highest winning percentage (.705) in a season.

  • BGSU hires North Carolina administrator as provost Nov 9, 2018 2:54 PM Bowling Green State University has hired a physicist with longtime administrative experience as its next provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. Dr. Joe B. Whitehead will join BGSU January 22, 2019, BGSU announced Nov. 9.

  • BGSU Volleyball has sights set on MAC regular-season title Nov 8, 2018 1:30 PM Fresh off of victories over Northern Illinois and Miami, Bowling Green State University Volleyball ascended to the top spot in the the Mid-American Conference standings.   • BGSU women’s soccer team advances to NCAA tournament Nov 4, 2018 5:00 PM The Bowling Green State women’s soccer team qualified for the NCAA Tournament with a six-round shootout over Ball State University in the MAC championship match Sunday at Cochrane Stadium. In the sixth round of penalty kicks, Elisa Baeron kicked the game-winner.

  • BGSU women’s soccer team advances to MAC championship Nov 3, 2018 9:00 AM Jennifer Reyes scored midway through the second half, lifting Bowling Green State University women's soccer team to a 1-0 MAC semifinal victory over Ohio University on Friday at Cochrane Stadium. The top-seeded Falcons advance to the MAC championship to face Ball State University at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The BGSU Lake Erie Center for Fresh Waters and Human Health was founded with a $5.2 million federal grant.

Aldrich and Penny Daum Aldrich Distinguished Professor in Sociology. Manning is director of the Center for Family and Demographic Research, and co-director of the National Center for Family and Marriage Research. The former South Hall underwent a complete renovation and adding a new wing.

  • BGSU to host ‘Captives in Gray’ March 15 Mar 5, 2018 2:00 PM Bowling Green State University’s Center for Archival Collections will host Roger Pickenpaugh March 15 as he talks about the Civil War and his award-winning book, “Johnson’s Island: A Prison for Confederate Officers.” Pickenpaugh is the winner of the center’s 2016 Local History Publication Award.

  • BGSU sweeps Ferris State in first round of WCHA playoffs Mar 4, 2018 1:34 PM The BGSU hockey team advanced to the second round of the WCHA playoffs Saturday, March 3, with a 5-2 victory over Ferris State at Slater Family Ice Arena. The Falcons took a 3-0 lead and tallied two insurance goals in the third period to earn a sweep over the Bulldogs.

  • Sarah Bednarski Joins Marketing and Communication Staff Feb 28, 2018 3:55 PM Sarah Bednarski has joined the University as the new director of marketing and communications and University spokesperson. Bednarski comes to BGSU from Mercy Health, where she held several leadership roles in marketing and communications for the past 17 years. Most recently, she served as public relations director, leading a team of professionals across Ohio and Kentucky.

  • Chinese Troupe to Share Culture and Goodwill Feb 28, 2018 3:50 PM As part of a cultural exchange, a Yanshan University group from China will perform at Bowling Green State University and other northwest Ohio universities beginning March 12. The Yanshan University Performance Troupe will present “Whispering Dreams of a Spring Breeze,” demonstrating Chinese dance, music and martial arts.

  • BGSU forensic researchers reduce danger of fentanyl exposure Feb 26, 2018 11:30 AM Dr. Travis Worst and Noah Froelich discovered that the laundry detergent OxiClean can remove all traces of fentanyl from lab surfaces. The Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation located at BGSU promptly recommended to Ohio law enforcement agencies that OxiClean be used when the potent drug might be encountered.

  • Postcard from Abroad: Beijing Feb 26, 2018 11:00 AM A group of Tourism, Leisure and Event Planning students from BGSU visited Beijing. Not only were the students able to experience landmarks such as the Temple of Heaven and Great Wall of China, but also learned calligraphy, sat in on an event planning class and took a traditional tea class.

  • Renowned soprano Dawn Upshaw to perform at BGSU Feb 26, 2018 9:30 AM Soprano Dawn Upshaw, a five-time Grammy Award winner, will visit BGSU March 18-20 as the 2018 Helen McMaster Endowed Professor in Vocal and Choral Studies. Upshaw and her pianist, Gilbert Kalish, will present a public recital on March 18 and give master classes in voice and piano to BGSU students.

  • Honorary Degrees, Faculty Titles, Bestowed by Trustees Feb 23, 2018 4:15 PM At its Feb. 23 meeting, the BGSU Board of Trustees moved to confer honorary degrees upon alumni Maryrose Sylvester and James Bailey, who will be recognized at BGSU commencement ceremonies. Honorary faculty titles were approved for Drs. Susan Brown, sociology, and James Albert, mathematics and statistics.

  • Facilities Named, Improvements Planned Feb 23, 2018 4:00 PM The BGSU Board of Trustees on Feb. 23 approved a new B.A. in respiratory care degree at BGSU Firelands, set room and board rates for 2018-19, and approved funding for facility renovations and repairs. It also named a number of campus spaces in honor of donor support.

  • Rogers named as next BGSU president Feb 23, 2018 1:41 PM Dr. Rodney Rogers is BGSU’s new president. The BGSU Board of Trustees promoted him permanently to the post at its meeting Feb. 23. Rogers was named interim president in December 2017 and assumed the role on Jan. 1. He served most recently as provost and senior vice president since 2012.

The program expands BGSU’s interdisciplinary master’s degree program in gerontology, the only one in Ohio. Graduates will be prepared to sit for licensing exams.

Each year since its creation, a Bowling Green State University graduate has won. This year’s award goes to Ryan Hurd ’14.

  • Jennifer Higdon ’86 scores again at 2018 Grammy Awards Feb 2, 2018 12:01 PM BGSU alumna Jennifer Higdon won the Best Contemporary Classical Composition Grammy Award for a second time, for "Viola Concerto." The piece was co-commissioned by the Library of Congress and the Curtis Institute of Music. It was performed by soloist Roberto Díaz with the Nashville Symphony and conducted by Giancarlo Guerrero.

Lovince, perhaps best known for her portrayal of Kori in the movie "Pitch Perfect," also has landed roles and several TV shows and other movies and short films.

  • Two SIC SIC members revealed at hockey game Jan 30, 2018 10:11 AM BGSU students Austin Gilbert, who portrayed Captain Planet, and Natasha Flesher, who portrayed Groot, were revealed as the senior members of the school spirit group that originated in 1946. Both students were happy to share in the longtime tradition and help spread good cheer among their fellow students.

  • Mitch McLain is up for Hobey Baker, Hockey Humanitarian awards Jan 29, 2018 11:39 AM Not only is Mitch McLain the team captain of the BGSU hockey team but he leads the team in scoring 13 goals this season and also leads his teammates by example. He has been nominated for the Hobey Baker Award, and is a finalist for the Hockey Humanitarian Award.

  • BGSU mediation team earns national recognition Jan 25, 2018 2:07 PM Bowling Green State University has become a recognized leader in intercollegiate mediation tournaments held by the International Alternative Dispute Association. In 2017 BGSU finished first in the nation in the Advocate-Client category and fifth in the Mediator category, and six team members were named All-American Mediators out of a total of 35.
