BGSU women’s soccer team advances to MAC championship

Jennifer Reyes scored midway through the second half, lifting the Bowling Green State University women's soccer team to a 1-0 MAC semifinal victory over Ohio University on Friday (November 2) at Cochrane Stadium.

With the victory, the top-seeded Falcons (14-4-2) advance to the Mid-American Conference Tournament's championship match to face No. 2 seed Ball State University at 1 p.m. Sunday (November 4). The Cardinals posted a 1-0 win in double overtime over third-seeded Western Michigan University in the other semifinal match.

The Falcons held an 11-8 advantage in total shot attempts and BGSU had eight shots on goal to the Bobcats' two, but the match was scoreless until the 69th minute.

The Falcons' goal came when junior Maureen Kennedy intercepted the ball near midfield after an Ohio goal kick. Kennedy played a one-timer ahead to senior Erica Hubert, who took the ball into the penalty area on the left side of the field, then played it across to Reyes.

Reyes settled the ball near the top of the 18, and quickly hit a shot that beat Ohio goalkeeper Sydney Malham and found the far corner of the net, bouncing just inside of the far post. It was the first goal of the season for Reyes, a senior.

BGSU, which has won nine straight matches at Cochrane Stadium, has advanced to the championship of the MAC Tournament for the second straight year and the seventh time in program history.
