  • Sarah Bednarski Joins Marketing and Communication Staff Feb 28, 2018 3:55 PM Sarah Bednarski has joined the University as the new director of marketing and communications and University spokesperson. Bednarski comes to BGSU from Mercy Health, where she held several leadership roles in marketing and communications for the past 17 years. Most recently, she served as public relations director, leading a team of professionals across Ohio and Kentucky.

  • Chinese Troupe to Share Culture and Goodwill Feb 28, 2018 3:50 PM As part of a cultural exchange, a Yanshan University group from China will perform at Bowling Green State University and other northwest Ohio universities beginning March 12. The Yanshan University Performance Troupe will present “Whispering Dreams of a Spring Breeze,” demonstrating Chinese dance, music and martial arts.

  • Feminist Author Highlights Women's History Month Events Feb 28, 2018 3:40 PM BGSU celebrates both the 40th anniversary of its Women’s Studies program and Women’s History Month with a visit by famed feminist author Susan Brownmiller, a panel discussion among alumnae of the program, a student research conference and a film series.

  • BGSU forensic researchers reduce danger of fentanyl exposure Feb 26, 2018 11:30 AM Dr. Travis Worst and Noah Froelich discovered that the laundry detergent OxiClean can remove all traces of fentanyl from lab surfaces. The Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation located at BGSU promptly recommended to Ohio law enforcement agencies that OxiClean be used when the potent drug might be encountered.

  • Postcard from Abroad: Beijing Feb 26, 2018 11:00 AM A group of Tourism, Leisure and Event Planning students from BGSU visited Beijing. Not only were the students able to experience landmarks such as the Temple of Heaven and Great Wall of China, but also learned calligraphy, sat in on an event planning class and took a traditional tea class.

  • Renowned soprano Dawn Upshaw to perform at BGSU Feb 26, 2018 9:30 AM Soprano Dawn Upshaw, a five-time Grammy Award winner, will visit BGSU March 18-20 as the 2018 Helen McMaster Endowed Professor in Vocal and Choral Studies. Upshaw and her pianist, Gilbert Kalish, will present a public recital on March 18 and give master classes in voice and piano to BGSU students.

  • Honorary Degrees, Faculty Titles, Bestowed by Trustees Feb 23, 2018 4:15 PM At its Feb. 23 meeting, the BGSU Board of Trustees moved to confer honorary degrees upon alumni Maryrose Sylvester and James Bailey, who will be recognized at BGSU commencement ceremonies. Honorary faculty titles were approved for Drs. Susan Brown, sociology, and James Albert, mathematics and statistics.

  • Facilities Named, Improvements Planned Feb 23, 2018 4:00 PM The BGSU Board of Trustees on Feb. 23 approved a new B.A. in respiratory care degree at BGSU Firelands, set room and board rates for 2018-19, and approved funding for facility renovations and repairs. It also named a number of campus spaces in honor of donor support.

  • Rogers named as next BGSU president Feb 23, 2018 1:41 PM Dr. Rodney Rogers is BGSU’s new president. The BGSU Board of Trustees promoted him permanently to the post at its meeting Feb. 23. Rogers was named interim president in December 2017 and assumed the role on Jan. 1. He served most recently as provost and senior vice president since 2012.

  • BGSU Hockey set for final regular-season series Feb 21, 2018 2:50 PM Heading into the final series of the regular season, the Bowling Green State University hockey team (19-9-6 overall, 16-5-5 in the WCHA) already has clinched at least a No. 3 seed for the WCHA playoffs against an opponent yet to be determined.

  • Alumna named Miss Scuba International Feb 21, 2018 2:24 PM BGSU alumna Brittany Novick shares ocean conservation message through professional opportunities with the National Marine Mammal Foundation and as Miss Scuba International. The foundation position also allows her to network with like-minded women around the world.

  • New Graduate Program Addresses Need for Nursing Home Administrators Feb 21, 2018 1:55 PM Bowling Green State University is answering the call for a better pathway to becoming a licensed long-term-care administrator with its new graduate specialization in that area. The program expands BGSU’s interdisciplinary master’s degree program in gerontology, the only one in Ohio. Graduates will be prepared to sit for licensing exams.

  • Alumnus pays it forward with BGSU students Feb 19, 2018 2:41 PM Geoffrey Radbill ’68 found his experience at BGSU life changing and believes his time at the university helped set the stage for his future success. He retired in 2003 as senior vice president and chief operating officer of retail distribution at AXA-Equitable after 36 years with the company.

  • Mantra Percussion to Perform in Kobacker Hall Feb 14, 2018 2:50 PM Percussion sextet Mantra Percussion returns to BGSU for a concert at 8 p.m. Feb. 19 in Kobacker Hall at the Moore Musical Arts Center. The group’s performance is part of the Music at the Forefront series sponsored by the University’s MidAmerican Center for Contemporary Music, and is free.

  • Songbirds may tune in to mental health treatment Feb 14, 2018 2:50 PM Alumna Dr. Lauren Riters returns to Bowling Green State University Feb. 21 to share her research on how the social interaction of songbirds is relevant to human mental health. She will present the 2018 J. P. Scott Center Jaak Panksepp Lecture.

  • BGSU is one of the safest colleges in the U.S. Feb 14, 2018 2:45 PM BGSU is ranked 32nd on the 2018 list of Safest Colleges in America, and one of only two universities in Ohio ranked in the top 100. The ranking was created using the most recent data from the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting and the National Center for Education Statistics.

  • In Brief: February 15 Feb 14, 2018 2:30 PM March 1 is the deadline for students to apply to the Hoskins Global Scholar program. Each year, the program provides financial awards in the amount of $5,000 for up to three selected students to participate in an international experience. Undergraduate and graduate students may participate.

  • Amy Shore '86 profiled in Fortune magazine Feb 5, 2018 10:30 AM Bowling Green State University alumna Amy Shore ’86, president of property and casualty sales and distribution at Nationwide, was recently profiled in Fortune magazine. The magazine recognized Nationwide in its 100 Best Workplaces for Women at No. 50, and Shore is one of the company’s highest-ranking female executives.

  • BGSU alumnus named Young Music Educator of the Year Feb 5, 2018 9:00 AM The Ohio Music Education Association’s Young Music Educator of the Year award was created four years ago to recognize and honor members for excellence in music education. Each year since its creation, a Bowling Green State University graduate has won. This year’s award goes to Ryan Hurd ’14.

  • Faulkner Book Urges A More Physical Feminism Feb 2, 2018 3:30 PM Dr. Sandra Faulkner’s new book, “Real Women Run: Running as Feminist Embodiment,” brings poetic inquiry, ethnography and feminist analysis to the study of women runners of all identities and how they fit or do not fit cultural expectations. Faulkner makes the case against a mind/body spit and for a more physical feminism.

  • Jennifer Higdon ’86 scores again at 2018 Grammy Awards Feb 2, 2018 12:01 PM BGSU alumna Jennifer Higdon won the Best Contemporary Classical Composition Grammy Award for a second time, for "Viola Concerto." The piece was co-commissioned by the Library of Congress and the Curtis Institute of Music. It was performed by soloist Roberto Díaz with the Nashville Symphony and conducted by Giancarlo Guerrero.

  • Black History Month events look ‘beyond the dream’ Jan 31, 2018 5:00 PM With the start of February, Bowling Green State University’s “Beyond ‘The Dream’” series focuses on Black History Month. From movies at the Gish Film Theater to guest speakers and musicians and an academic conference, the month provides a variety of opportunities to share in the African-American experience.
