New Student Orientation, in collaboration with the BGSU community, welcomes, supports, and empowers new students and families during their transition to University life at BGSU and beyond. By providing programs and coordinating strategic services that meet the diverse and individualized needs of incoming students, we support student success and persistence by offering educational opportunities that build community and facilitate personal growth and development.
The new student orientation includes a series of events beginning with our "Student Orientation, Advising and Registration" (SOAR) to prepare students and families for the transition before the school year begins. Once the students make it to campus, they are required to attend events during "Opening Weekend" for helpful introductions to the academic and social environments on campus. Finally, "Fall Welcome" is a series of 120+ events during the first week on campus to encourage students to meet friends, faculty, and staff.
