The Spring 2017 semester waiver and enrollment period has ended. Waiver and enrollment information for the 2017-2018 academic year will be posted as soon as it is available.
Health Insurance at Bowling Green State University is a requirement for all domestic students taking 8 or more credit hours on main campus.
  • Note: Correspondence, Online, and Distance Learning Classes are not considered to be on main campus.
  • Students will see the Health Insurance Requirement on their "To Do" List through MyBGSU 24-48 hours after registering for 8 or more credit hours on main campus. 
  • If you already have adequate health insurance and do not wish to enroll into the BGSU/Aetna Student Health Plan, you must submit a waiver through your MyBGSU account before the posted Waiver/Enrollment deadline.
  • If you do not have other health insurance, review the Aetna Student Health Plan details and Enroll into one of the plan options through your MyBGSU account.
  • All International students are required to enroll into the BGSU/Aetna Student Health Plan.  International students may qualify for an exemption if they are sponsored by their government or have a US employer based plan.  Please see the International Students page for specific waiver requirements.

BGSU Student Health Insurance is provided by Aetna Student Health.  Detailed information about student health insurance plan benefits is available and can be viewed through the Aetna Student Health website here  

Student Insurance Office Hours are as follows:
  • Monday – Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Closed Holidays


The Mission of the Bowling Green State University Student Insurance Office is to support and empower students in an inclusive environment to become knowledgeable health care consumers, assist them as they navigate through the health insurance process while achieving their academic goals, and provide a student insurance product at the highest possible benefit level and lowest possible cost.
