This past winter I found myself in the upper peninsula of Michigan in search of the
Northern Lights for the first time. Upon seeing this astronomical phenomenon I immediately felt
inspired to incorporate what I witnessed into a body of artwork.
I have spent the past 2 years experimenting with the reactive colors to see how different
colors create different patterns when they touch on the glass. I've always been deeply surprised
with how the reactions in the glass turn out because you never know exactly what they will look
like. When seeing the Northern Lights the colors almost look painterly and blended together and
I am directly trying to recreate the blended color look and the elegance of the northern lights on
my vessels using reactive color techniques.
