Pre-Health Biology - BS

The pre-health biology specialization prepares students for the requirements of health professional programs at the graduate level such as medicine, dentistry, optometry, pharmacy, and veterinary medicine.

Quality classroom experiences

Undergraduates have the opportunity to engage in discovery-based research through two experiential learning courses offered in the biological sciences. Laboratories for both courses of anatomy and physiology are taught in Moseley Hall, a newly renovated building with state-of-the-art facilities for teaching.

Curriculum

The pre-health biology specialization requires a full year each of organic chemistry and physics, a semester of biochemistry, and individual courses in microbiology, economics, psychology, sociology, and/or statistics, as required by the graduate program of choice. Advising professionals guide pre-health biology students to identify courses required by professional schools and inform them about the application process, specific admissions tests, and curricular as well as co-curricular activities that enhance their competitive edge when applying to professional schools.

The pre-health biology specialization prepares students interested in pursuing graduate programs in medicine, dentistry, optometry, pharmacy, or veterinary medicine.

Internships and Careers

Students choosing this specialization are encouraged to participate in undergraduate research to gain a stronger understanding of how the frontiers of knowledge in the various health related areas are broadened and deepened. The Office of Pre-Professional Programs on the BGSU campus assists students in obtaining internships, shadowing, and volunteer experiences as well as professional entrance exam preparation.
