Program Description:

In the Service-Learning Community of Practice, we will examine the transformative power of service-learning as an educational tool and provide you with actionable strategies to integrate this approach into your classroom, bridging the gap between theory and practice for the public good. The service-learning pedagogy challenges traditional methods of lecture and knowledge consumption toward an experiential-learning pedagogy. Whether you are new to service-learning or are seeking to enhance your existing courses, we invite you to join this Community of Practice. We will discuss what service-learning is and the core components of the pedagogy, which include the importance of integrating meaningful service into the curriculum, the careful selection of community partnerships, and the incorporation of critical reflections on the impact and experience of serving a community.
