The Center for Faculty Excellence is the University’s lead resource for teaching and learning support for faculty, staff, and graduate students. The CFE provides professional development workshops and training sessions, instructional design consultations, web resources, communities of practice, certificate programs, and more—all designed to support the BGSU teaching community.
Spring 2025 Communities of Practice
Registration is now open for the Spring 2025 Communities of Practice. Each academic year, the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) works with Faculty Associates and campus partners to develop and deliver innovative and timely Communities of Practice. Communities of Practice are semester-long learning opportunities designed to engage members in discussion and exploration of a specific topic.
The registration deadline for Spring 2025 Communities of Practice is Friday, January 17 or when the community reaches capacity. Participation for some Communities of Practice may be limited; registrations will be fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Spring 2025 Workshops & Sessions
The Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) is excited to announce its upcoming schedule of workshops and sessions for the spring semester facilitated by CFE team members, CFE Faculty Associate, campus partners and other members of the BGSU teaching community. The scheduled workshops and sessions cover a variety of topics. To learn more about upcoming sessions, click on the link below to visit the Session Catalog page. Advance registration is required for all CFE events. Registration closes one business day before the event. CFE workshops and events are open to all members of the BGSU teaching community, including faculty, instructors, staff, and graduate students, unless noted otherwise.
Faculty Associate Program
The Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) is now accepting applications for the 2025-2026 Faculty Associate Program! Faculty Associates support the work of the CFE by designing and facilitating learning communities and sessions and providing insight on CFE programming and projects. This position is open to full-time faculty and adjunct faculty at BGSU. Faculty Associates who successfully meet the program requirements receive $5,000 for one academic year of service. BGSU Syllabus Template & Required Policy Language
The CFE has developed an accessible Syllabus Template that includes a combination of required policy language, CBA expectations, and example statements that are not required. If you would like assistance developing your syllabus, please schedule a consultation with a CFE instructional designer.
The University and the BGSU Faculty Association (FA) share a common goal of supporting student success. Article 9, Section 2.7 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) states the following minimum expectations for inclusion in your course syllabus:
- A clear statement on course expectations
- The schedule and methods of assessment
- Indicators of support for student success
- Pedagogical efforts that engage students in the learning process
In addition to the CBA’s expectations above, the University requires that all syllabi include the statements in the Required University Policy Statements section. These statements are based on obligations imposed by state and federal law. Please note, the Remotely Proctored Testing statement is only required if the instructor is utilizing remotely proctored testing.
Other sections of this template may be removed or modified based on your course.
