Dr. James Ciesla

Dr. Jim Ciesla is the Dean of the College of Health and Human Services, a position he assumed in July 2018. Prior to coming to BGSU, Dr. Ciesla spent over 20 years at Northern Illinois University as a faculty member and serving in various administrative roles. A health economist by training, Dr. Ciesla’s academic work focuses on way to operationalize, measure and evaluate the outcomes of health and human services through the application of human capital economics. Dr. Ciesla has long believed that student involvement in research can be a transforming experience in shaping lives. Research introduces students to the joy of discovery and makes the process of learning active rather than passive.

Dr. Alex Goberman

Dr. Alexander Goberman is the Interim Dean of the Graduate College, serving in this role since Fall 2020. He came to BGSU in 2000 as a Professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders, and he has served as Associate Dean of the Graduate College since 2014. In the Graduate College, he emphasizes a comprehensive approach to student success, using data to support graduate students as they work to earn degrees, while empowering others to help students be successful.

Andrew Kurtz

Kurtz earned a doctoral degree in literary and cultural theory from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pa., a master’s degree in English from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, and a bachelor’s degree in English from the College of Wooster, Wooster, Ohio.

Dr. William Mathis

William B. Mathis was appointed Dean of the College of Musical Arts at Bowling Green State University in 2016, having come to BGSU in 2000 as the Professor of Trombone. He has performed as soloist and in chamber music concerts throughout the United States at numerous universities and music festivals, including the Second International Brassfest, Festival at Sandpoint, Keystone and Rafael Mendez Brass Institutes, New York Brass Conference, Eastern Trombone Workshop, and several International Trombone Festivals. His students have won national and international competitions and hold teaching positions in universities and public schools throughout the country. Internationally, he has performed solo recitals, orchestral, and chamber music concerts abroad in Austria, Germany, Hungary and China. Prior to his appointment at BGSU, he served for thirteen years on the faculty of Northwestern State University of Louisiana, where he taught applied low brass and was a member of the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra.
A native of Wichita, Kansas, Mathis holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Wichita State University and a master's and doctorate from The University of Michigan in trombone performance.

Dr. Zubair Mohamed
- Position: Associate Dean, Professor, Schmidhorst College of Business

Dr. Mohamed joined the Schmidthorst College of Business on June 30, 2014, as associate dean and full professor in the management department. His duties include oversight of undergraduate programs, collaborations with overseas universities, assurance of learning and AACSB accreditation. He also oversees the Business Career Accelerator, Undergraduate Student Development Office, and works with Dean Ray Braun to oversee Student Ambassadors, the CBA Rewards Point Program, and the Peer Leadership Program.
Prior to joining the BGSU, Dr. Mohamed was employed at Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, KY, since August 1989. While at Western Kentucky University, he was designated a University Distinguished Professor and served as the chair of the management department as well as interim director of the Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation. He played an important role in developing academic programs in entrepreneurship and international business, online degree completion program, cultivated education abroad opportunities, principal investigator on two grants from the US Department of Education, and increased the majors by 100 percent.
Dr. Mohamed earned a doctorate degree in business administration from the University of Kentucky, majoring production and operation management and minoring in information systems, and has published over sixty refereed research articles and published a book. His research appears in prestigious journals such as European Journal of Operational Research, International Journal of Production Research, and International Journal of Production economics, to name a few. His research interests include the modeling of global supply chains, inventory management, and quality control. He has taught a variety of courses including management science, production and operations management, supply chain management, total quality management, and enterprise resource planning.

Dr. Simon Morgan-Russell

Simon Morgan-Russell, Ph.D. is a Professor of English and currently serves as the Dean of the Honors College, having previously served as the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences and the Interim Dean of the Graduate College. Although a full-time administrator, he continues to teach courses in the Honors College, and is interested in supporting successful faculty interactions with high-achieving students at BGSU.

Jennifer McCary
- Position: Chief Diversity and Belonging Officer, Division of Diversity and Belonging

Jennifer McCary is the Chief Diversity and Belonging officer at Bowling Green State University (BGSU), where she oversees the Division of Diversity and Belonging. McCary earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in art education/stone sculpture, a Master of Arts degree in college student personnel, and is currently working on a Doctorate in organization development and change, all from BGSU. McCary serves on multiple local steering committees and holds elected positions within the American College Personnel Association (ACPA). She is a two-time TEDx speaker, an exhibiting artist, received a 20 Under 40 award from the City of Toledo in 2019, and was named an Ohio Top Diversity Officer in 2021 by the National Diversity Council.
McCary has made it her professional goal to help reduce violence and improve the climate as it relates to inclusion in as many spaces as possible.

Dr. Kacee Ferrell Snyder

Kacee Ferrell Snyder, Ph.D., is the Director of the Center for Women and Gender Equity and Co-Director of the Center for Violence Prevention and Education. Kacee has worked in a variety of functional areas in higher education for over 15 years. However, she has an established record of supporting students in their growth and clearing pathways for access and educating and empowering others in order to help them access the resources they need to be successful. She is a two-time alumna from BGSU with a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration and an M.A. in College Student Personnel from the institution, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Ohio State University. She is a mother of two and she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and traveling. Kacee also serves on the BG Community Foundation board as a trustee, the Board of Directors for The Cocoon, and is a member of the Shakespeare Roundtable. She looks forward to continuing to support students, faculty, and staff as we work together to advance the potential for gender equity at BGSU and beyond.

Bailey Murphy, M.Ed.

Bailey Murphy is the Coordinator in the Office of Accessibility Services. She graduated from The University of Toledo with a Bachelor of Science in Speech-Language Pathology with a minor in Disability Studies and a Master’s in Special Education. She has been with Accessibility Services for over 6 years. She enjoys working directly with students to ensure that accommodation needs are being met.

Dr. Carrie Hamady, Ed.D.

Carrie Hamady is a registered/licensed dietitian and the Director of the Undergraduate Dietetics Program at BGSU. She worked as a clinical dietitian for the majority of her career in sub-acute rehab and long-term care facilities. She has presented at FNCE, the Ohio NDEP Conference, and the CREATE Conference on innovative teaching practices and was featured in Today’s Dietitian for her use of Twitter in the classroom. She has also presented at the SCAN symposium and is nutrition coach for the Sports Performance Team. She serves as the Vice-Chair for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ Nutrition Informatics Committee and is the group leader for the Nutrition Care Process and Research Outcomes (NCPRO) Committee for ANDHII. She serves the Faculty Affiliate on campus for the Presidents United to Solve Hunger (PUSH) initiative. She won the award for best innovation in dietetics education at FNCE, and the Faculty Excellence Award for Community-Based Teaching at BGSU. Carrie completed her doctorate in Leadership Studies at BGSU in 2019.

Dr. Lisa Hanasono, Ph.D.

Dr. Lisa Hanasono is an associate professor in the Department of Communication at Bowling Green State University (BGSU). Her research interests focus on topics related to diversity, inclusion, and social justice. Specifically, she examines how people communicate and cope with prejudice and discrimination. She also publishes scholarship on communication pedagogy and has been actively involved with the CFE as an Active Learning Classroom (ALC) mentor, Faculty Learning Community facilitator, and presenter at its annual Teaching and Learning Fairs. As a CFE Faculty Associate, as well as a member of the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD), BGSU’s IDEAL-N Team and the President’s Advisory Council on Diversity and Inclusion (PACODI), Dr. Hanasono is dedicated to advancing the careers and professional development of faculty and supporting transformational university initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion.

Joel Arakaki

Joel Arakaki serves as the Director of Client Services in Information Technology Services. Client Services includes the Service Desk, Desktop Support, classroom technology and computer lab support, asset management, hardware support, and operating system and software deployments. He has over fifteen years of experience in education IT, including time in higher education and K-12 organizations. Prior to joining BGSU, he served as the Client Support Manager at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. He received an MA in Strategic Communication from Bowling Green State University.

Amanda Grace Taylor
- Position: Doctoral Student and Instructor | Graduate Student Senate President | CSCA Women's Caucus Secretary

Amanda is a first generation, non-traditional college student who is currently working on her PhD in Media and Communication at Bowling Green State University. Her research uses critical, feminist lens to examine the intersection of etiquette and interpersonal communication. By subverting and critically analyzing social etiquette hegemony, Amanda helps people take control of their identity by drawing awareness to their habitus, understanding how it affects the way they interact with society, and equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in today’s world. She believes that inclusive and accessible etiquette is a way to bring people together.
Showing her ongoing dedication to her communities, Amanda serves as the Graduate Student Senate (GSS) president for the (2022-2023) and the Central State Communication Association (CSCA) as the Secretary of the CSCA Women's Caucus. She has served as the GSS as the treasurer (2021 – 2022) and with the Graduate Student Association (GSA) as the SMC faculty representative (2021 – 2022). Amanda volunteered at the poverty simulation that was a part of BGSU’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of service and serves as the student representative on the SMC director search committee. She has also volunteered with many organizations in the states and countries she has lived in including the Junior League and United Service Organizations (USO). Amanda lives with her dog (Blue), cat (Kevin), and partner (Nathan) in lovely Bowling Green, Ohio.
