Dr. Chelsea Chandler, Ph.D., has served as the Director of the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE). Chelsea is an experienced educator passionate about creating engaging and meaningful learning experiences to support student success. Chelsea has taught in a variety of settings, including K-12, higher education, and informal education programs.
Prior to joining the CFE, Chelsea held multiple positions in higher education. Her higher education teaching experience began with her appointment as an Assistant Professor of Curriculum and Instruction at Concordia University Chicago. She co-led the Curriculum and Instruction program and taught graduate teacher education courses on topics such as curriculum theory and design, culturally sustaining and responsive pedagogy, foundations of education, and teacher action research. Her experience designing courses for different modalities at Concordia University led her to pursue career opportunities in the field of Learning Experience Design (LXD).
Before joining the CFE, Chelsea worked in higher education as an Assistant Professor of Curriculum and Instruction at Concordia University Chicago. She co-led the program, taught graduate courses on curriculum and pedagogy, and designed courses in multiple formats, which inspired her shift toward Learning Experience Design (LXD).
As a Learning Experience Designer at the University of Michigan, Chelsea supported faculty in developing open, online courses and led her team in course design initiatives. She also co-taught a year-long lab course and mentored students during their residency at the Center for Academic Innovation.
Chelsea’s research interests include course design, curriculum development, and teaching and learning in online, hybrid, and face-to-face environments. She regularly presents at national conferences and serves as a peer reviewer for educational development journals and publications.
Dr. Chandler holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Toledo, as well as a Master of Education in Teaching and Learning from BGSU.
Astrid Umanzor is a Program Coordinator at the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE). She has a bachelor’s degree in International Studies and Spanish from Bowling Green State University. Astrid brings experience supporting a diverse student population and is excited to apply her passion for programming and student success to the CFE team.
Before joining the CFE team, Astrid worked in student-facing roles within higher education. She worked at a nonprofit organization that partnered with schools in Cuyahoga County to increase access and completion of higher education by providing scholarships and resources. Additionally, Astrid worked at a study abroad agency where she helped thousands of international students transition from their home countries to Cleveland State University.
In her role at CFE, Astrid is committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment that provides the BGSU teaching community with the tools they need to promote and achieve student success.
Holly Barber serves as an Instructional Designer at the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE). She has a Bachelor's degree in Communication, specializing in video production from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
At the CFE, Holly facilitates instructor professional development workshops and collaborates one-on-one with instructors to help develop their courses in the Canvas LMS. Holly's passion for video production, creating engaging micro-learning videos, and video editing skills are evident in her work, and she manages the instructor recording studio at BGSU.
Before joining BGSU, Holly worked at Owens Community College as an instructional designer. She is an expert using the Canvas LMS and is dedicated to discovering innovative ways to utilize educational technologies in course design.
As an instructional designer at the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE), Anna Rood works closely with faculty and instructors to support effective course design and teaching practices. With a decade of experience in both K–12 education and higher education, she brings a well-rounded perspective to her work in faculty development.
At the CFE, Anna leads interactive workshops, provides personalized one-on-one consultations, and offers training on emerging educational technologies. She is a Canvas Certified Educator who holds certificates in Quality Matters, WebAIM Accessibility, and has presented nationally on using Canvas tools to improve pass rates for post-graduation licensure exams.
Earning an undergraduate degree in education from BGSU and a graduate degree in education from Tiffin University, Anna supports others in applying sound educational best practices. She’s especially passionate about online teaching, differentiated instruction, and fostering student engagement. Through her work at the CFE, Anna is committed to helping faculty create learning experiences that are impactful, efficient, and student-centered.
Miles Wronkovich is an instructional designer at the CFE whose current focus is working with the Math Emporium, enhancing and enriching their goal to make math more accessible for students incoming to BGSU. Before joining the Center, he taught high school education focusing on mathematics, engineering, and physical sciences, where he holds bachelor's in chemistry from Amherst College and a master’s in chemistry from University of Virginia, focusing on catalysis on metallic surfaces. Through his own educational journey being on both sides of the student-instructor working relationship, he is passionate about making abstract and complex STEM concepts more approachable and available to students, creating educational experiences where students can construct their own understandings, and collaborating with instructors who strive for this for their own courses.
Outside of their professional life, Miles enjoys hiking through national parks, watching Premier League football, and creating languages from scratch.
