Register for Classes

Meeting with your Academic Advisor and Planner (advisor) and building your class shopping cart does not mean your classes have been registered. You must complete the following steps to officially enroll in your classes

Fall and Spring Registration

The registration process will open up for you on your official class registration day. The system will grant access based on class standing. More students gain access to the system until the open enrollment date. The earlier you register, the more course options will be available. Make sure you are prepared by building your shopping cart before your registration date.

Summer Registration

Summer registration opens for everyone on the same day, but classes will fill on a first-come, first-served basis so more course offerings will be available the earlier you register. There are also multiple class sessions available during the summer, which makes it easier for you to take more than one class to get caught back up or get ahead. Learn more about summer session.

  • Regardless of the date, or the semester you are registering in, if you have a hold on your account, you will NOT be able to register for classes.
  • Incoming new students follow a different registration process and should follow the details outlined on the new student orientation webpage.

How to Finalize Your Schedule and Officially Register

1. Log in and go to: MyBGSU > Student Center > Classes & Registration > Shopping Cart
2. Finalize the shopping cart you prepared prior to your registration day – If you haven’t built your shopping cart, please follow the steps on the prepare your class schedule step of the registration checklist.
3. Check the status of your classes.
Green Circle = Open | Blue Square = Closed | Yellow Triangle = Waitlisted

Closed Class

If a class is listed as closed, you will not be able to enroll in it. So, if a class in your cart is closed we recommend replacing that class with an open class.

Waitlisted Class

If a class in your cart is waitlisted you can choose to replace the class with an open class, or if you would like to be added to the class if someone drops it, click on the class > check the 'Waitlist if class is full' box.

4. Once you are okay with the classes in your shopping cart, click the 'Proceed to Step 2 of 3' button.
5. Click the 'Finish Enrolling' button
6. Check the course 'Status' column in the chart.
Green Check Mark = Class Scheduled | Red X = Not Scheduled

Red X because of Waitlist

If you see a message stating you are on the waitlist, it will show you what position you are on the list. When someone drops the class and you are next on the list, you will be added to the class. Once added, you will see it on your schedule. You have the option to remove yourself from the waitlist as well.

Red X because Full

If you see an error message, this means the class is full and you are not on the waitlist. At this time, you can choose to search for an open class, or if you would like to be added to the waitlist, go back to the class and check the 'Waitlist if class is full' box and follow the process again.

7. Double check to make sure all of your classes appear on your schedule by clicking the 'My Class Schedule' button.
