Room Selection

Room Selection

New Student Room Selection

Selecting on-campus housing works like choosing a seat at a concert. You are able to view all available options and select any of the available rooms when it's your turn. The date you make your $200 Initial Housing Payment does not influence the day and time you'll pick your room. Room selection times are 100% RANDOMIZED. We have a lot of on-campus living options that are affordable, comfortable and close to your classes. Every residence hall has its perks. PLUS, it has been proven that students who live on campus have a higher GPA and are likely to graduate faster than their peers who live off campus.

It's exciting to pick where you want to live, but it's important to remember housing choices vary based on availability. We can't guarantee everyone will receive their first choice, but we can guarantee you will love to be a Falcon!

Jan. 3 – May 15 | Room Selection Groups (RSGs) can be formed

Did you know? 49% of students decide not to match with a roommate and go with a random roommate.

Room selection groups (RSG) can be formed. You can increase your chances to live with your preferred roommate by joining a room selection group with one of your friends. Students in a group will receive the same selection time, making it easier to find a room together, or close together. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee students will be roommates, even if they are in a group.

If you would like to receive the same selection time as your friend, you can create a room selection group in your housing application located in your myBGSU My Room and Meals Account.

May 15 | Important Deadlines

This is the last day students can cancel their Housing Contract and receive a full refund of the $200 initial housing payment. Students who cancel after this date are subject to the Forfeiture Schedule. This also applies to anyone receiving a deferral on their initial housing payment.

New and transfer students have until 11:59 EST on May 15 to complete their On-campus Housing and Dining Agreement and make their $200 Initial Housing Payment if they want select their room between May 20-22. Students can still receive a room after these dates but there will be limited availability.

This is also the last day to form a Room Selection Group (RSG). RSG requests must be submitted and confirmed by the second student PRIOR to 11:59 EST on May 15. If both steps are not complete by the deadline, you will receive separate room selection times which will make it more difficult to find a room together and may require you to select a random roommate.

May 16 | Room Selection Times emails after 3 p.m. EST

New students who have paid their $200 initial housing payment will receive a Room Selection Time sent to their BGSU email account after 3 p.m. EST.

Selection times are randomized and are NOT influenced by the date a student makes their initial housing payment.

Please note: This does not include students in learning community rooms because they have already selected their rooms prior to this date.

May 20-22 | Room Selection Week

Based on the Room Selection Time assigned to the student, they will go into their BGSU Housing Portal and select their actual room.

Important Room Selection Steps

  • Room Selection Times will be assigned between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m. EST each day.
  • Room Selection is a first-come-first-serve process.
  • During your Room Selection Time once you select a room our system will hold it for you for 5 min. This means while that room is in your "cart" no other student will be able to select into that room. If you do not complete your selection of that room within that 5 min. time the room will become available to all students selecting at that time.
  • After a student has access to the system, they can log back in and make changes through the end of room selection, at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22.
  • If a student selects a room for their confirmed Room Selection Group (RSG) member and then decides to choose a different room, the student no longer will be linked to their RSG and BOTH students must login and make a new selection.

Learning Community (LC) members will follow this process to select their LC room but will select housing early.

May 29 | Room Change Request Process

The room selection process doesn't have to end unless you want it to. If you ended up in a residence hall you aren't satisfied with, or you and your friend had to choose a room away from each other, you can submit a Room Change Request or add yourself to a Hall Waitlist.

Both Room Change Requests and Hall Waitlists are granted on a first-come, first-served basis and our office process requests throughout the summer. For Room Change Requests, you will be notified through your BGSU email if your request is approved. For the Waitlist, you will receive a phone call to the number provided in the waitlist. On average, we are able to fulfill 65% - 70% of the requests we receive but this is solely determined by factors outside of our control, requests can only be granted if space becomes available.
