Rewired

Rewired

In a situation replayed across the country students from my Senior Studio Painting and Drawing class became castaways from campus for the final eight weeks of their tenure at BGSU. The lockdown forced them to abandon studios (in most cases their materials) and denied them the capstone experience of a BFA exhibition, displayed in the university’s beautiful gallery space, that could be shared with friends and family. It was a blow to their psyche that compounded the difficulty of slogging through the remainder of the semester online. That is why I’m so pleased with how each of these young artists responded to the idea of revisiting their BFA show in order to reexamine its form and content and, in turn, create a new work that gives voice to the current situation they find themselves in. The result is a showcase of the skill, creativity, honesty and thoughtfulness that went into realizing a compelling body of work we’ve entitled Rewired.
