The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a computer based program offered through the College Board where well prepared students may take the tests to obtain college credit. It is designed to assist students in reaching their academic goals by gaining college credit for knowledge acquired in previous non-credit studies or outside a traditional classroom setting. Along with many other universities, BGSU grants credit for acceptable scores in one or more subject areas. Policies on the granting of CLEP credit are set by the individual universities and vary widely from one institution to another. For more detailed information, visit CLEP.
Please note that CLEP has announced a new service offering At-Home CLEP Exams.
Only approved CLEP classes are available as substitutions for BGSU classes. For the most updated list of approved classes, please visit BGSU’s CLEP catalog page.
Testing is available Monday - Friday between the hours of 9:00 am and 2:30 pm. Testing candidates can schedule an appointment by calling 419-372-8495. Please note that due to the number of students testing at this location you should make your appointment two weeks in advance of your desired test date.
The CLEP is proctored in the Office of Accessibility Services, located in 38 College Park Office Building.
Testing candidates must present two valid (i.e., unexpired) forms of identification (ID). One primary form of ID must be government-issued and contain both your photograph and your signature (i.e., Driver's License, Government-issued ID, Passport). The second form of ID is not required to have a photograph or signature (i.e., Credit Card, Library Card, Student ID). You will be provided with pencils and scratch paper once admitted to the testing room.
The basic fee for the CLEP Assessment, which includes reports for you and your college costs a total of $109; BGSU charges an administrative fee of $20, and CLEP charges $89 for the test. BGSU requires a check or money order payable to BGSU. CLEP requires the candidate to purchase an admission ticket prior to arriving at the office. Please note that the administrative fee of $20 is non-refundable. This $20 administrative fee is waived for all Veterans.
