In Brief: October 2

Homecoming 2014 parade route road closings

The Homecoming 2014 parade on Friday (Oct. 3) will force the closure of several streets in and around campus and the city of Bowling Green, which is a modified route from recent years.

The parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. at South Grove Street near the Bowling Green Police Station and proceed east along Wooster Street, ending at Mercer Road.

The following roads and parking lots will be affected at BGSU:

  • All access points to Wooster Street between Thurstin and Mercer will close at 4:30 p.m.
  • Faculty, staff and students parked in lots Q and 21 should utilize alternative lot exits.
  • Faculty and staff parked in lots A, G and D will be allowed past the “Do Not Access” point in lot G to reach Conklin Drive north of Centennial Hall. This will allow access to Mercer to exit campus.

The following roads and routes will be affected in the city:

  • South Grove between Washington Street and Wooster will be closed to through traffic from 3 p.m. until all parade units have joined the route. This area will be staging for the parade. Residents in the closure area will have access via Washington.
  • Parking will not be allowed on South Grove from noon-6 p.m. between Washington and West Wooster.
  • Parking will not be allowed on Buttonwood Avenue from noon-6 p.m. from north of 145 Buttonwood to West Wooster Street. Posted signs will indicate the parking restrictions.
  • Parking will not be allowed at the former school administration site between Grove and Buttonwood from noon-6 p.m.
  • Wooster Street between Grove and Mercer will be closed for approximately one hour to 90 minutes as the parade progresses to the east. The road closure will be “rolling,” so while Wooster at Main will be closed at 4:30 p.m., it will reopen once the entire parade has passed.
  • Streets that intersect with Wooster will be closed at the point where they intersect.  Access to businesses will be maintained but not via Wooster Street entrances. Side streets should be utilized.
  • Mercer between Merry Avenue and East Wooster will be closed once the parade approaches the area for units to disperse.
