In Brief: September 29

Leadership for Diversity workshop slated

BGSU will present a full-day Leadership for Diversity Workshop on Oct. 9, open to faculty, staff and community members. The National Coalition Building Institute event will teach participants about building welcoming and inclusive environments in their classrooms, work places and community organizations.

The free workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in 207 Bowen-Thompson Student Union. Continuing Education Units are available to participants.

Hosted by the Office of Multicultural Affairs and TRIO Programs, the workshop is designed to give participants an increased appreciation for similarities and differences among group members and enhanced listening skills and empathy toward others through hearing personal stories.

They will learn to recognize stereotypes that impact actions and attitudes toward others and identify harmful effects of stereotypes and promote civility among diverse groups, while sharpening their competencies for preventing and interrupting discriminatory behaviors.
