There may be a number of reasons you're seeking out mental health services, and depending on what you need, the Counseling Center offers several ways of getting connected. To learn more, please look at the statements below and select the statement(s) that reflect what you need.

If you need to start or restart counseling, you first need to schedule an initial appointment over the phone to protect your privacy and to ensure the conversation is confidential.

Some reasons for seeking counseling could include (but are not limited to):
- I am experiencing anxiety and/or stress
- I feel depressed and/or have low mood/energy
- I am concerned about my alcohol and/or drug use
- I am having difficulty adjusting to a recent change
- I am having interpersonal issues
- I am unsure about something significant in my future
- I need to make a major decision and need feedback
- I am dealing with a sudden loss
- I am experiencing discrimination or harassment
If you are interested in starting counseling, you can schedule an initial appointment to discuss your concerns and options for services. Initial appointments can be scheduled by calling our office at 419-372-2081. Please note that students should schedule their own appointments (rather than other people scheduling for them).

Call and schedule a same-day consultation! Same-day consultations can be used for students to discuss their concerns if they are not in a crisis situation. The counselor will listen and offer support, problem-solving, information, and resources. These consultations do not take the place of therapy and are not appropriate for emergencies, but they can help address a variety of concerns.

Our staff is also available to consult with you about your concerns for students and ways that you might help them and/or connect them to services. Call the Counseling Center at 419-372-2081 during business hours (8am-5pm) and ask to speak with the on-call counselor.
If you think there may be an emergency, please call right away! If it’s not during business hours, here are options:

- Call or text the National Crisis Line at 988
- Text HOME to 741741 for the Crisis Text Line
If you believe there is an immediate, life-threatening emergency, you have the option of calling for a wellness check. Call 911 or contact campus or city police. A police officer or other emergency responder will seek out the student of concern and check on their safety.
Students referred for Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) services should call our front desk at 419-372-2081 to schedule an appointment and discuss other necessary details. When you call, please have your sanction letter with you and ask for the assessment/class as it is written in the letter – we want to make sure that we schedule you for the correct type of appointment.
Students referred for an Emotion Management consultation should call our front desk at 419-372-2081 to schedule an appointment. When you call, please have your sanction letter with you and ask specifically for an Emotion Management appointment – we want to make sure that we schedule you correctly.
Thriving Campus is a searchable online database of providers who are available to work with students.

Our Student Assistance and Advocacy (SAA) services may be helpful to you. SAA assists students in problem solving and identifying solutions, providing referrals and follow-up, navigating university procedures, and coordinating services for students involved with several BGSU offices.
To schedule an appointment with our Student Assistance & Advocacy Specialist, call the Center at 419-372-2081. You do not need to be a counseling client to meet with the SAAS.
Our Center does not offer diagnostic assessment for ADHD, Learning Disorders, or Autism Spectrum Disorder, but we would be happy to help you find a referral. Here are a few places to start:
- BGSU’s Psychological Services Center conducts a limited number of assessments for these concerns. To inquire about openings, call them at 419-372-2540.
- Thriving Campus is a searchable online database of providers who are available to work with students. You can search the Thriving Campus site by visiting our homepage.
- If you’d like assistance in finding a provider for an assessment, our Student Assistance & Advocacy Specialist may be able to help you find a referral. To schedule with the SAAS, call our Center at 419-372-2081.
Our Center does not offer assessments or letters for Emotional Support Animals, but we would be happy to help you find a referral.
