Goals and Objectives
Note: Work on the federally-funded BGSU ALLIES project was completed prior to June 27, 2025, when Ohio’s Advance Higher Education Act (Senate Bill 1) went into effect.
The goal of BGSU ALLIES was to make allyship and inclusive leadership the norm and expectation at BGSU.
The ALLIES project had four objectives:
- Revise institutional policies and processes to make allyship and inclusive leadership the expectation for faculty and administrators.
- Design training materials, workshops, and online modules to develop departmental allies and inclusive leaders knowledgeable about inclusion and intersectionality and empowered to actively combat bias.
- Deploy new data collection processes allowing better tracking of faculty advancement in the context of intersecting identities (including non-binary gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, sexuality, dis/ability status).
- Disseminate training materials and best practices to other institutions through a strategic communication plan and a regional conference to be held at BGSU in Spring 2022.
Our Approach:
- Train STEM faculty to be effective allies to their women and minoritized colleagues
- Train STEM Chairs/Directors to be inclusive leaders empowered to break down barriers to faculty success
- Revise University policies to better support allies and inclusive leaders
The Three I’s served as our unifying theme:
- Inclusion
- Intersectionality
- Interconnections
