Statement on Diversity and Inclusion

The Department of Theatre and Film embraces a notion of an intellectual and artistic community enriched and enhanced by diversity and inclusion across multiple dimensions including race, ethnicity and national origins, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, class and religion. We are especially committed to redressing the representational balance of those populations who have been historically excluded from cultural participation in the United States.

We are committed to attracting, recruiting and retaining a diverse population of faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, and staff. The inclusion of underrepresented groups in the Department is important in order to address and understand systematic inequalities facing US institutions and society, to facilitate a new generation of ideas and leaders within the disciplines of Theatre and Film, and to cultivate civil discourse among diverse parties. We are committed to provide the support necessary for the success of all members of the department.

We emphasize these concerns through our hiring practices, pedagogical mission, community engagement, and through our casting procedures in our theatrical and film productions. We encourage those individuals from underrepresented groups to join our intellectual and artistic community.
