Matthew’s research is in social and political philosophy and the history thereof, with a particular focus on democracy, autonomy, and collective intentionality/group agency, as well as the exploration of these themes in early modern European philosophy, particularly classic social contract theory. He has taught courses in political philosophy, PPE, ethics and applied ethics, history of philosophy and philosophy of law.
