Leader's Training Course (LTC)
The Leader’s Training Course
LTC is an exhilarating 28-day experience meant to give you the best leadership development in the world. It takes place during the summer in Fort Knox, KY. Specifically, the course is designed for people like you – highly charged individuals with two years of college remaining whether undergrad or grad. It is an accelerated version of the two years of leadership development the Army ROTC Cadets receive on campus. Ultimately, the skills you gain will qualify you for enrollment in the Advanced Army ROTC course and put you on the right path to becoming an Army or Army Reserve Officer.
The purpose is to help you maximize your potential as a person physically, mentally and emotionally. Once there, you will be grouped in squads of people with the same determination and passion as yourself. You will develop leadership skills, receive constructive feedback and gain a firsthand experience of what it is like to be in the U.S. Army.
What happens at LTC
Soldier First: Get immersed in the ways of the Army. There will be physical training, drills and ceremonies to prepare you for the upcoming weeks. You will also spend time working together as a team to overcome obstacles in simulated tactical situations.
Warrior Leader Phase: Prepare for adventure. You will build on the basics of the first phase by participating in such activities as combat water survival, rappelling, land navigation and marksmanship.
Bold Leader Phase: Time to lead. Cadets will be given exercises in which they are expected to lead their squad in every part of a mission – from receiving orders and analyzing the terrain to making a plan and attaining the objective.
Future Leader Phase: The finale. Receive guidance from your LTC instructors to gather a sense of your accomplishments over the past few weeks. Then organize and take part in your Family Day, graduation and awards ceremonies.
The Leader’s Training Course is a foundation – a building block – a step in the right direction for whatever it is you want to accomplish in life. It is an opportunity to receive a leadership experience unlike any other. You will learn about people, situations, circumstances and, most importantly, yourself. Undoubtedly, you will leave with a sense of the honor and distinction that comes from serving in the U.S. Army. You will appreciate the Army’s Code of Ethics and respect its values. Finally, see firsthand how the benefits of the LTC training will extend well beyond your college years. You may even qualify for a TWO – YEAR SCHOLARSHIP that may cover your college tuition and many other expenses.
