Classroom Ideas

Consider incorporating lessons, assignments, and extra credit that enables students to learn about discrimination and harassment, including sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking. The following list is by no means exhaustive, but provides ideas for possible lessons, assignments, and extra credit:

  • Students write a paper or project related to the topics of harassment, discrimination, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, gender equity, bystander intervention, Title IX, etc.
  • Students read an article or other reading related to the topics of harassment, discrimination, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, gender equity, bystander intervention, Title IX, etc.
  • Students attend an event or program such as SafeZone, Green Dot, Trans 101, or Take Back the Night.

Program and Event Ideas

Consider participating in and hosting programs and events for staff and students that enables them to learn about discrimination and harassment, including sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking.

  • Participate in mandatory Title IX training for faculty and staff
  • Attend a SafeZone or Trans 101 training
  • Host a SafeZone or Trans 101 training for your department or student group

Bowling Green State University (BGSU) is committed to providing a safe learning environment for all students that is free from all forms of discrimination and harassment, including sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking. 

Please by aware that all BGSU faculty members are "mandatory reporters," which means that if you tell me about a situation involving sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, or stalking, I must share that information with the Title IX Coordinator. If you or someone you know has been impacted by sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, or stalking, BGSU has staff members trained to support you.

Although I have an obligation to report, you will, in most cases, control how your case will be handled. When working with the Office of Title IX of the Office of the Dean of Students, you will ahve access to resources, but also have the opportunity to express if you wish to move forward with an investigation. Our goal is to make sure you are aware of the options available to you as a BGSU student.

I am a mandatory reporter at BGSU, which means I am not a confidential resource. Therefore, I am required to report any information that I am aware of that may violate the Title IX Sexual Harassment Policy. If you would like to speak with someone confidentially, please contact the BGSU Counseling Center, Falcon Health Center, or BGSU Psychological Services Center. Other resources include The Cocoon, Gender Violence Prevention and Education Services, and Unison. Otherwise, if you would like to report an incident involving a possible violation of BGSU's Title IX Sexual Harassment Policy, please contact our Title IX Coordinator at (419) 372-8476.

What is Title IX?

The Office of the Title IX at BGSU is committed to cultivating a campus environment free from harassment and sex and gender-based discrimination through reporting, education, prevention, response, and discrimination through reporting, education, prevention, response, and remediation. We provide leadership pertaining to the Title IX regulations, state laws, and University policies, as well as develop and implement best practices for prevention, training, resources, and support services.

Your Resident Advisor and Hall Director are mandatory reporters, which means they have to submit a report regarding your incident to the Title IX Coordinator.

In the next 24-48 hours, you will either receive:

  • A phone call from the Office of Title IX or the Office of the Dean of Students to schedule a time to talk.
  • A scheduled appointment letter using your current course information.

Even if you are not sure what to do, speaking with our office gives you the opportunity to let us know:

  • What you need
  • How we can assist you; and
  • What options you have moving forward

It’s okay if you do not accept our invitation to meet. Please know that we will be limited in the help we can provide and options moving forward. You can always contact us when you are ready.

Here are some things to prepare you for the meeting:

  • Although we prefer to meet in person, we can always schedule a virtual meeting.
  • You can bring someone with you to the meeting. This person is called an “advisor”.

We will discuss what type of academic support or other supportive measures you need.  This can include:

  • No contact order
  • Changes to academic, living, working, or transportation situations/conditions
  • Reaching out to your professors to excuse missed classes

We will explain all your options, which could include:

  • Helping you make contact with the police
  • Moving forward with a university investigation
  • Nothing at this time
