BGSU Firelands launches The Firelands Grant, a $0 tuition scholarship for students with need

HURON, Ohio — Bowling Green State University Firelands is offering a $0 tuition degree path for new and transfer students with need who enroll for Fall 2023.

The Firelands Grant is a scholarship that covers the remaining balance of instructional and general fees after the Federal Pell grant is applied, renewable for four years.

"An accessible education supported by a college committed to student success has always been our focus," BGSU Firelands Dean Andy Kurtz said. "Keeping the BGSU Firelands education affordable has and will remain our promise to the region."

Students who apply have access to programs that prepare them for the future. Majors aligned with high-growth fields — allied health, business, technology, education, communication and more — are taught by award-winning faculty and supported by a college dedicated to the student experience.

To be eligible, students must enroll full time at BGSU Firelands campus in Huron, be an Ohio resident and be eligible to receive the Federal Pell Grant as determined through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

A BGSU Firelands education remains affordable for those who do not qualify for The Firelands Grant. BGSU Firelands students benefit from thousands of dollars in scholarships each year. Coupled with already low tuition — about $2,800 per semester for Ohio residents — enrolling at BGSU Firelands offers the opportunity to earn a BGSU degree at a fraction of the cost of a traditional residential university experience.
