BGSU unveils new electronic campus map

BGSU has launched a new, interactive campus map in an effort to improve mobile accessibility and navigation for students and visitors. The new design includes a search tool, a detailed list of campus buildings and amenities, transportation services, construction notifications and a directions feature for mapping the quickest route to your destination. 

As technology continues to evolve, it is important to keep up with the ever-changing trends that appeal to today’s college students. BGSU’s previous campus map was outdated and lacking in functionality compared to its competitors, so a need was identified to address these issues. The Office of Design and Construction sought out CampusBird, a mapping and media services agency specializing in map-management systems for higher education institutions, with a goal of creating a mobile-friendly tool that would allow users to access spatial data while navigating across campus.

Through several brainstorming sessions, the team identified various categories of interest that would appeal to target users — students, visitors, alumni and employees. Each category offers unique and current information that highlights the campus experience for prospective users and helps them to make the most of their time spent at the University. The interactive map will continue to evolve with the addition of new categories, services and information.
