Bravo events celebrate arts, College of Musical Arts centennial

March 28 is an important day for the arts at BGSU, when two separate celebrations will dovetail to honor the quality and longevity of all University arts programs. “Bravo CMA” commemorates 100 years of music at BGSU and “Bravo! BGSU” celebrates the quality and vibrancy of all the arts areas, with the goal of raising scholarship funds.

The College of Musical Arts opens its doors to the community and welcomes alumni beginning at 3 p.m. in the Moore Musical Arts Center. Visitors can attend a reception, learn about the history of the college in a special presentation and enjoy a concert by individuals and ensembles from the College of Musical Arts. The night will conclude with a party and dancing at the Clazel Theatre, 129 N. Main St. in downtown Bowling Green.

Dean Jeffrey Showell said, "The CMA's 100-years-of-music celebration will provide a unique opportunity for CMA alumni, former professors and former administrators to relive the past, to find out more about the present of this terrific institution, to reunite with their contemporaries and to meet current faculty, students and administrators." Tickets for Bravo CMA are $25 and may be purchased online.

The day of festivity continues with "Bravo! BGSU" from 7–11 p.m. in the Wolfe Center for the Arts, with a goal of raising scholarship funds for students in all areas of the arts. Students, faculty and alumni from the School of Art, Creative Writing Program, College of Musical Arts, Department of Theatre and Film and the dance area will provide an evening of performances, readings, exhibits and demonstrations. Special performers will be on hand from the Toledo School for the Arts, the BGSU-sponsored charter school, showcasing the next wave of talent. The evening concludes with guests dancing onstage in the Thomas B. and Kathleen M. Donnell Theatre.

Tickets for "Bravo! BGSU" are $100, or $1,000 for Grand Patrons. PNC is the presenting sponsor for the event. For tickets or more information, contact the Office of the President at 419-372-2211 or president@bgsu.edu.

"This is a great way to showcase the artistic talents of our students and faculty and all that BGSU has to offer in the arts," said President Mary Ellen Mazey. "It will be a wonderful evening for a great cause."
