Ay Ziggy Zoomba!

Falcon Fans –

I hope this message finds you and your loved ones safe and healthy. As we adjust to our changing world, Falcon Athletics has continued to work hard to serve all of those who matter most — our student-athletes, coaches, staff, and Falcon fans and alumni like you! We are so grateful for your continued generous support. You are making a difference in lives!

While the COVID-19 pandemic continues to alter our daily lives, I challenge all of us not to allow the virus to take away so many wonderful accomplishments and memories from the 2019-20 academic year. We cannot allow our circumstances to overtake or eliminate all of the hard work of our student-athletes, coaches and staff who have done so much to make this past academic year a special one here in Bowling Green. We strive to be defined not by what we lost, but what we have achieved as we represent Bowling Green State University with pride and class in all areas of our department.

Be sure to check out this summary of extraordinary athletic accomplishments by our student-athletes in the past year. (Link to 2019-20 Athletic Department Highlights) The list includes everything from MAC championship play to Falcon Football’s big win over Toledo to notable individual performances across a broad spectrum of the 18 sports in which we compete at the Division I level.

In addition to these fantastic athletic achievements, we are equally proud of our continued academic progress highlighted by the following statistics:

  • Cumulative GPA 3.41
  • Over 50% of our student-athletes have a 3.5 cumulative GPA
  • Leading the way, we have 53 student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA

In addition to their time in the classroom and dedication to a comprehensive training regimen, our student-athletes completed 3,860 hours of community service — surpassing our previous year’s total from AY19 by the time we moved to remote learning. These hours reflect the service efforts of 92 percent of our student-athlete population from all 18 of our varsity sports. A true team effort and representative of the well-rounded and holistic student-athlete experience enjoyed by our students at BGSU!

As you can see, we have much to be proud of here at BG Athletics and much is a direct result of your continued support. This was a year of tremendous growth and we will continue on that path as long as we support and celebrate our people and show the GRIT, HUMILITY, and TRUST that have become core values of our Falcon Family. We will continue to get through this TOGETHER!

My incredible staff, along with University leadership, the Wood County Health Department and Wood County Hospital, are hard at work planning for our return to campus and to Falcon athletic events. Please wear a face covering, maintain safe distance and keep up the frequent hand washing to help us stop the spread of COVID-19. I wish you and your loved ones nothing but the best. Stay safe, stay healthy, and please let us know if there is ever anything we can do to help.

Go Falcons, Ay Ziggy!
