Faculty Research and Creative Work Funds
The College of Arts & Sciences Faculty Research and Creative Work Fund is designed to support faculty development in the areas of research and/or creative work, including the scholarship of teaching and learning. Any full-time faculty member with continuing appointments in the College may apply for funding. A faculty member may receive a maximum of one (1) disbursement from the College of Arts & Sciences Faculty Research and Creative Work Fund per academic year.
Eligibility
- Funds may be used to cover costs related to presenting, exhibiting, and/or performing their scholarly, research, or creative work (e.g., travel, registration fees). This might include fees associated with attendance to workshops/seminars associated with applicant’s discipline and/or research/creative agenda where presentation/exhibition is not required.
- To be eligible for future A&S Faculty Research and Creative Work funds, prior awardees must have completed the post-funding report form within three (3) months of the activity that has been funded.
Funding cannot be used for expenditures made prior to the application deadline, stipends or honoraria for BGSU employees, or software equipment that is already available at BGSU.
Amount: $25,000 is available per year. Individual awards up to $2,000.
Application Process
Complete the online form and provide:
- Description of the activity (up to 300 words)
- Description of the impact of the activity on the faculty member’s research and career advancement, as well as the public good (up to 300 words)
- A link to the event, conference program, or workshop (if applicable)
- A clear, specific budget using this template
- Evidence that the support sought from this A&S fund exceeds their department’s annual professional development funding, other professional development funds available to them, and/or external grant funds (if applicable). Requires signature of the Department Chair or School Director.

Deadlines: AY2023-2024: March 1, 2024; Thereafter: October 1 and March 1 of each academic year.
Evaluation Process
Three members of the A&S Council (rotating each funding cycle) and an Associate Dean, serving as an ex officio member, will review each application.
Post-Award Reporting
Awardees must submit the online completion report and provide:
- Summary of the research/creative work completed (up to 300 words)
- Impact on the public good
- Budget spending report
Deadline: Within three (3) months of the completion of the activity that was funded
If an awardee fails to submit their reporting form, they will not be eligible for future funding.
