The School of Cultural and Critical Studies at Bowling Green State University seeks strong applicants for possible part-time teaching assignments for Fall 2024, Spring 2025 and Summer 2025 in the areas of: American Culture Studies (ACS), Ethnic Studies (ETHN), Popular Culture (POPC), Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WS), and Public History (PUBH). In their letter of application, applicants should clearly identify specific courses and general field(s) which they are qualified to teach. Successful candidates may teach introductory courses in these fields including Introduction to ACS (ACS 2000), Cultural Pluralism in the U.S. (ACS 2500), Introduction to ETHN (ETHN 1010), Introduction to WS (WS 2000), Introduction to Popular Culture (POPC 1600), Popular Culture and Media (POPC 1650), Black Popular Culture (POPC 1700), Introduction to Folklore and Folklife (POPC 2200), and Women and Interpersonal Violence (WS 3350). These courses may be in-person or online (asynchronous). Qualified applicants may also be offered part-time teaching assignments in more specialized undergraduate and graduate courses in these units, including courses that contribute to the Public History graduate certificate such as Historical Society Administration (ACS/HIST 6570) and Museology (ACS/HIST 6540).
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in relevant discipline preferred. Minimum requirement is a master’s degree. Evidence of successful teaching at the collegiate level is preferred. For Public History positions, professional experience in the field is strongly preferred, and necessary for applicants without a Ph.D.

1) letter of application outlining qualifications relevant to this position—(a) Candidates are asked to clearly identify the specific courses and general fields within the School of Cultural and Critical Studies that they are qualified to teach in the first paragraph of their letter. For each course identified, describe how your experiences qualify you to teach it. “Qualifying” examples may include (but is not limited to): graduate degrees, graduate coursework, academic paper presentations, academic publications, exhibitions, professional experiences, prior teaching experience, workshops, seminars, and etc. (b) If candidates have online/remote teaching experience, they are asked to clearly describe the extent of that experience in the letter. (c) Please note your availability to teach in-person (in Bowling Green, Ohio) or online. Note: Candidates may be asked to provide credentials specific to the course that they will teach.
2) teaching statement briefly outlining your beliefs about the teaching and learning process as well as concrete examples of ways in which you enact those beliefs in the classroom.
3) full curriculum vita.
4) original transcript(s) indicating highest degree earned (snail mail or electronically sent from the institution where the degree was conferred).
5) two current (dated within the past year) original letters of reference to be sent directly from the recommender or a dossier service like Interfolio to Amy Davidson, amyd@bgsu.edu.
Finalists will be required to authorize and pass a background check prior to offer of employment.
