Dr. Stephannie Gearhart is the 2018-19 Distinguished Faculty for the College of Arts and Sciences
Dr. Stephannie Gearhart was named the 2018-19 Distinguished Faculty for the College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Gearhart is an Associate Professor in the Department of English, and the Director of the Literature Program.
On Wednesday, March 13 at 4 p.m. in 206 Bowen-Thompson Student Union, Dr. Gearhart will deliver the College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Faculty Lecture. The lecture is free and open to the public, and will be followed by a public reception. Dr. Gearhart's lecture is titled, "‘OF AN AGE’ OR ‘FOR ALL TIME?’: HOW WE SEE SHAKESPEARE TODAY."
Nearly 400 years ago, Ben Jonson declared that Shakespeare "was not of an age, but for all time!" What did he mean by this? And, was he correct? In Dr. Gearhart's talk, "'Of an Age' or 'For All Time?': How We See Shakespeare Today," she will discuss how Shakespeare profoundly affected his own culture and how he continues to affect ours by addressing the playwright's key role in shaping the early modern era's ideology of intergenerational relations and the postmodern era's ideas about diverse topics such as race, class, sexual orientation, and gender politics.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Gearthart and attending her lecture!
