Chinese

The Chinese minor provides solid language skills and fundamental cultural knowledge for students who are interested in Chinese culture. It combines core Mandarin Chinese language coursework with culture courses related to philosophy, literature and the arts.

Classical Civilization

The Classics minor is designed to introduce students to important areas of the ancient Greek and Roman civilizations, including art, history, philosophy, language and literature. Students in the classics minor learn to think critically, analyze complex ideas and communicate persuasively.

French

Learn the language that is spoken in five continents and regions around the world — Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America. The French minor includes courses in conversation, composition, French for professionals, culture, literature, and film.

German

The German minor helps students develop their speaking, reading, writing and listening skills in German in a series of language, culture, literature and film courses. It also gives students insight into the leading European economies.

Italian

Exposure to Italian culture, language, and history through the Italian minor will enrich students' lives and help prepare them for future careers in culinary arts, fashion, film, language, literature and music.

Japanese

Japanese language courses help students develop strong speaking skills with the help of regular conversation meetings with native speakers of Japanese. The minor combines this core language course work with additional electives related to Japanese culture, literature, and traditional script.

Latin

Classes in Latin take a cultural and reading approach to learning the language, which aids in the development of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Latin is excellent preparation for law, dental and medical programs, as 90% of the specialized vocabulary in these areas derives from Greek and Latin.

Russian

The Russian minor explores the language, traditions, history and culture of Russia. Interdisciplinary courses in literature, media and contemporary Russian society are offered as well.

Spanish

Spanish is the second most-spoken language in the United States. The Spanish minor includes courses focused on conversation and composition, as well courses promoting engagement with the Spanish-speaking world through the study of cultural topics, literary materials, linguistics studies, and other areas.
