Student Collaboration

The Rhetoric & Writing PhD Program values and encourages collaboration. This is a representative--but incomplete--list of collaborative conference presentations, publications, and other work by students and faculty. The listing will be updated from time to time.

Megan Adams, Kristine Blair, Mariana Grohowski, and Heather Trahan collaborated on a panel presentation for the 2012 WIDE-EMU (Un)conference in East Lansing, MI, titled, "Gone Digital: Constructing Literacy Narratives for Multimodal Composition Pedagogy." 

Kerri Hauman and Stacy Kastner co-designed and co-taught English 2070: Intermediate Writing: "Multimodal Literacies and Reflective Learning" in Fall 2012. They both will co-present with their students at the 2012 WIDE-EMU (Un)Conference on the rational for, products from, assessment of, and lessons learned in their class.

Megan Adams and Heather Trahan collaborated on a presentation at the June 2012 Works in Progress: An Interdisciplinary Graduate Conference at the University of Cincinnati titled, "Spirituality & Feminism: The In-Progress Person-Teacher."

Megan Adams, Estee Beck, and Craig Olsen collaborated on a panel presentation at the May 2012 Computers and Writing conference titled, "Constructing Identity in Web 2.0 Spaces: Understanding the Possibilities and Constraints."

Kristine Blair, Matthew Bridgewater, Mariana Grohowski, and Ken Hayes collaborated on a panel presentation at the May 2012 Computers and Writing conference titled, "Architectures of Identity: The Impact of Web 2.0 on Graduate Student Representation." 

Kerri Hauman, Stacy Kastner, and Lee Nickoson collaboratively reviewed a forthcoming Kairos web text. 

Kristine Blair, Katherine Fredlund, Kerri Hauman, Em Hurford, Stacy Kastner, and Alison Witte co-authored the article, "Cyberfeminists at Play: Lessons on Literacy and Activism from a Girls' Computer Camp," which is forthcoming in Feminist Teacher. 

Kerri Hauman, Stacy Kastner, and Alison Witte co-authored the article, "Writing Teachers for Twenty-First Century Writers: A Gap in Graduate Education," which will appear in a forthcoming special issue of Pedagogy. 

Kristine Blair, Katherine Fredlund, Kerri Hauman, Em Hurford, Stacy Kastner, and Alison Witte co-presented "The Digital Mirror Computer Camp for Girls" at the 2012 CCCC's Computer Connection's Digital Pedagogy session in St. Louis, MO.

Kerri Hauman, Stacy Kastner, and Alison Witte co-presented "In Dark Corners Only': Technology Instruction in Rhet/Comp Ph.D. Programs" at the 2012 NCTE Annual Convention in Chicago.

Jeff Kirchoff and Kent Lentz facilitated a workshop titled"Using Comic Life for the Personal Narrative Composition" at Computers and Writing in Ann Arbor, MI, 2011.

Kristine Blair, Katherine Fredlund, Kerri Hauman, Em Hurford, Stacy Kastner, and Alison Witte co-presented "Digital Writing, Emerging Literacies, and Community Outreach" at the 2011 WIDE-EMU (Un)Conference. 

Kerri Hauman, Em Hurford, Stacy Kastner, Jeff Kirchoff, Lee Nickoson, and Kate Spike collaborated on a review of the book Rhetoric in Motion: Feminist Rhetorical Methods and Methodologies for the journal Feminist Teacher.  

Based on their presentation at the March 2009 CEA Annual Conference in Pittsburgh, PA, Katherine Fredlund, Bret Bowers, Brittany Cottrill, and Vanessa Cozza have a roundtable of articles, titled “Teaching Writing in New Spaces: Access, Design, and Application,” published in The CEA Forum 39.1 (2010). David McClure, Suzan Aiken, Emily J. Beard, and Lee Nickoson collaborated on a conference presentation, "Micro Study: An Introduction to the Work (and Play) of Empirical Research Methods and Methodologies,"  for Watson 2010.

Emily J. Beard, J. Clevenger, and Heather Pristash collaborated on a Writing Center Panel: “Decentering the Center: Second Life as Writing Tool” at the BGSU Teaching and Learning Fair, 2010. 

Suzan Aiken and David McClure co-presented "Composition Classroom Space (Re)Signified: The Limitations of the (De)Centering Myth" at the 2009 Feminisms and Rhetorics Conference.

Emily J. Beard, Christine Garbett, Jeff Kirchoff and Kerri Hauman co-presented at a 2009 BGSU PhD application workshop for MA and MFA students.   

Rick Gebhardt, Heather Fester, and Stephanie Anderson developed a full-session panel accepted for the 2008 CCCC. The panel title was Scholarship of Engagement: A Changing Reality for Composition and Rhetoric? Here are the speakers and their titles: Heather Fester, "Scholarship of Engagement and the Field of Composition and Rhetoric," Richard Gebhardt, "Composition Scholarship and the Scholarship of Engagement," and Stephanie Anderson, "Service Learning and the Scholarship of Engagement."

Lee Anne Nickoson, Kristine Blair, and Meredith Graupner collaborated in a conference presentation for Watson 2008 with the title: “Remediating Knowledge-Making Spaces in the Graduate Curriculum: Developing and Sustaining Multimodal Teaching and Research.”

Lee Anne Nickoson, Donna-Nelson-Beene, Brittany Cottrill, Elizabeth Fleitz, Meredith Graupner, Abbey Kanzig, Jeremy Schnieder, and Ruijie Zhao collaborated on a half-day workshop at 2008 CCCC.  The workshop was titled “Rubrics as Localized Realities: Strategies for Identifying and Strengthening Relationships Between Assessment Tools and Program Identities."

Kristine Blair, Lee Anne Nickoson, and Meredith Graupner collaborated on an article titled “Remediating Knowledge-Making Spaces in the Graduate Curriculum: Developing and Sustaining Multimodal Teaching and Research" for a Computers & Composition Special Issue: Computers & Composition (The Future of Graduate Education in the New American University: Intersections between Technologies and Literacies). Christine Garbett and Sue Carter Wood co-taught a three-day unit in ENG 150: Response to Literature titled “Fairy Tales and Fairy Tales Retold.”

Toby Coley, Joe Erickson, and Jeremy Schnieder presented a panel at 2008 NCTE entitled "Weaving a Real Web 2.0." 

Kristine Blair, Joe Erickson, Jeremy Schnieder, Toby Coley, Rujie Zhao, and Eden Leon co-presented a panel at Computers and Writing 2008 titled “A Web We Can Weave: Considering Open Source Technologies in Our Classrooms.” 

Joe Erickson, Kristine Blair, Toby Coley, Ruijie Zhao, Eden Leon, and Jeremy Schnieder co-authored an article for Computers and Composition Online (February 2009) entitled: "A Web We Can Weave: Considering Open Source Technologies in Our Classrooms."

Toby Coley and Joe Erickson co-authored a piece for Computers and Composition Online (February 2009) entitled "New Media and Multi-modality: An Interview with Chris Anson."

Joe Erickson, Eden Leone, and Vanessa Cozza will be presenting together at the CCCC 2009. The title of the panel is "Teachers, Texts, and Contexts: Tracking Traditions in Composition Studies."

Brittany Cottrill, Bret Bowers, Vanessa Cozza, and Katherine Fredlund presented a panel titled "Teaching Writing in New Spaces: Design, Access, and Application in the Technology-Equipped Classroom" at the College English Association, Pittsburgh, PA. March 2009.

Emily J. Beard, Brittany Cottrill, and Christine Garbett presented a panel at 2009 CCCC called "Composing Spaces: Reexamining the Spaces Where Students Write." San Francisco, CA. March 2009
