Careers

A degree in International Studies may take a student abroad for a career or it may prepare him or her for a domestic career that benefits from a global perspective. There are many exciting jobs both abroad and domestically, and these graduates have many career options. Many International Studies majors find work in federal and state government, business, branches of the armed forces, school districts and universities. Our graduates have gone on to diverse careers working in areas such as:

  • Contracts
  • Education
  • Event planning
  • Finance/economics
  • Flight attending
  • Foreign service & affairs
  • Human resources
  • Law
  • Logistics
  • Research
  • Social work
  • Trade
  • Travel planning

Some of these areas require further study or work experience after graduation. International Studies majors often go on to study law or political science, for example, or go to work for the Peace Corps or other international organization.

The flexibility of this major allows students to explore different career options while still in school. The International Studies program works closely with the BGSU Career Center to help students identify their skills and areas of interest, arrange internships, and provide contacts to government and other recruiters.
