Since joining the faculty at Bowling Green State University in 1998, I have focused on helping students discover and develop their unique voices as writers. I view writing as a process—one that involves exploration, revision, and reflection. In my classroom, students learn to see writing not as a one-time task but as an ongoing conversation with ideas, texts, and audiences.
I emphasize prewriting and revision as essential parts of the learning process and encourage students to engage deeply with their own work. Individual conferences are a central part of my teaching, allowing me to provide personalized guidance while helping students build the skills and confidence needed to become independent writers.
I also encourage students to collaborate with others—peers, instructors, and writing consultants—so they can benefit from multiple perspectives and refine their thinking. My goal is to equip students with the tools to write effectively, think critically, and communicate with purpose at the university and beyond.
