BGSU Computer Science offers forward-looking graduate programs designed to prepare students for leadership in the age of data and computing. Gradudate Degree Offerings

The M.S. in Computer Science at BGSU offers a rigorous and flexible curriculum focused on algorithms, software engineering, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and data science. Students work closely with expert faculty in small classes and can choose between research-oriented or applied study paths. The program emphasizes both theoretical foundations and hands-on experience, preparing graduates for advanced industry roles or doctoral study.

M.S. in Computer Science degree requirements includes a total of 30 hours course work, including 18 hours of computer science at or above the 6000 level and 12 additional hours of course work at or above the 5000 level. Culminating experience options include thesis or project/internship. 

The M.S. in Data Science is a multidisciplinary program with expert faculty from three departments: Computer Science and Mathematics and Statistics, both in the College of Arts and Sciences, and Applied Statistics & Operations Research in the Schmidthorst College of Business. Graduates will be prepared to enter industry or begin Ph.D.-level work in Data Science, making the program a strong starting point for those interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in the field or furthering their career.

M.S. in Data Science degree requirements includes a total of 30 hours course work, including 27 hours of coursework in Computer Science and Mathematics. The 3 hour culminating experience options include project or internship.

Graduates completing the Ph.D. in Data Science will demonstrate competency in the core concepts of data science. At BGSU, students will develop appropriate techniques to analyze structured, unstructured, or dynamic datasets, understand the principles of analytical methods, and articulate the strengths and limitations of analytical methods while also learning how to communicate effectively and respond to ethical concerns.

Ph.D. in Data Science degree requirements include 17 hours of required coursework, 24 hours of electives, 3 hours internship/research project and 16 hours dissertation credit.
