Certificate in History for Educators (Online)
The online graduate certificate in History for Educators offers advanced graduate training for high school teachers who want to teach survey-level college courses in school settings (such as as the College Credit Plus program in Ohio). Courses are taught by specialists, and there is an emphasis on providing instruction to meet expectations of college-level instruction.
Ohio state policy requires these minimum credentials (*) to teach in the “College Credit Plus Program”: either a Master's degree in the content area; or, a Master's degree in a different area (e.g. curriculum) plus 18 credits of graduate coursework in the content area (history).
The Department of History has developed an 18-credit certificate to meet the needs of high school teachers who already possess a Master’s degree in a different area (or are pursuing one) and who want to be qualified to teach College Credit Plus courses in history. For teachers interested in a master's degree in history, we offer an MA in History with robust online options.
Please contact the graduate advisor, Dr. Rebecca Mancuso at rmancus@bgsu.edu to learn more about requirements in different institutions. You can apply online and pay your application fee at the BGSU's Graduate College Landing Page
