Schools and Staffing Survey

DESCRIPTION: The SASS survey system consists of four integrated surveys of schools, administrators, and teachers in the United States. The primary goals of the system are to ascertain information on teacher demand and shortage, teacher and administrator characteristics, school programs, and general conditions in schools. SASS also collects data on many other topics, including principals' and teachers' perceptions of school climate and problems in their schools; teacher compensation; district hiring practices and basic characteristics of the student population. These questionnaires are sent to respondents in public, private, and Bureau of Indian Affairs/tribal schools. In 1999-2000, public charter schools were also included in the sample.

DATA and CODEBOOKS: The 1987-1994 SASS and the Teacher-Follow-Up Survey 1988-1995 data and codebooks are available on the network (R:\CFDR\Public\Data\SASS) and also from the ICPSR (http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/icpsrweb/ICPSR/studies?archive=ICPSR&q=School+Staffing+Survey).
