Transfer Credit Resources

The Office of Registration and Records reviews transcripts to determine whether coursework from another institution will qualify for credit at BGSU.

Undergraduate students

Are you transferring to BGSU from another institution?

The transfer evaluation team will review all official transcripts you provide to BGSU. You will be notified when your transfer credit evaluation is processed or if additional information is needed to complete your evaluation.

How to transfer to BGSU

Are you a current BGSU undergraduate who wants to take courses at another institution and transfer credit to BGSU?

  • Consult with your academic advisor first to make sure the courses will meet your degree program requirements.
  • Refer to the host institution’s guest/transient student policies for information on applying as a guest student. If it requires verification of academic standing, your transcript will verify your academic standing. Check academic standing.
  • To verify if courses transfer to BGSU, you have two options:
  1. Visit Transferology® and select “will my courses transfer” to view how your courses will transfer to BGSU. If you are already a BGSU student and want to take a course elsewhere to transfer back to BGSU, select “find replacement course.” Transferology information updates multiple times a week. It contains information on how courses satisfy specific requirements and the option to explore how your courses apply to specific programs.
  2. Visit TES® - Powered by CollegeSource™ if you're exploring transferring to BGSU and want a preliminary idea of how your courses will transfer. TES updates just twice a year, so visit Transferology® for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
  • Transfer credit will be accepted provided the student earns a final grade of “D” or better (or Pass for Pass/Fail registration) that carries at least the quality point of 1.0 or greater (on a 4.0 scale).
  • The grade from the host institution will not affect the BGSU cumulative average. The following may qualify for exceptions to this policy:
  • If you are attempting to qualify for honors at BGSU, all work taken at another institution is averaged into the total cumulative average.
  • When attempting to qualify for selected degree programs
  • Following completion of coursework, it is the student’s responsibility to request that your host institution send an official transcript to Bowling Green State University. For the fastest processing, send transcripts electronically to choosebgsu@bgsu.edu.

Transfer credit appeals

Any student wishing to contest an awarded course transfer equivalency can use the transfer credit appeals process.

Before filing an appeal

  • Check your degree audit in MyBGSU or confer with your academic advisor to ensure that the contested course is not already satisfying one of your degree requirements.
  • If you seek to appeal transfer credit for a BG Perspective (general education) course requirement, review the BGP General Education Appeals policy before proceeding.

If you have additional questions before filing an appeal, reach out to transfer@bgsu.edu. Include your name, BGSU I.D. # and contact information.

Submitting an appeal

Please submit the transfer appeal form only after you have completed the previous steps.

Per Ohio Articulation and Transfer Network (OATN) policy, appeals must be filed in writing within ninety (90) days of the transfer credit evaluation. You will be notified by email on the status of your appeal within thirty (30) days of the receipt of the appeal.
