Portable Innovation Labs

Portable Innovation Labs - Expanding STEM Access across northwest Ohio

Powered by the PAST Foundation and in partnership with Battelle, Portable Innovation Labs (PILs) bring high-quality, hands-on STEM learning to classrooms across Ohio at no cost. These labs are designed to support teachers and students with tools and experiences that schools may not be able to access on their own.

Each PIL offers unique, ready-to-use lab experiences designed to spark curiosity and connect learning to real-world careers. Labs span PreK-12th grade content, empower students and educators to see themselves as innovators, problem-solvers, and future STEM leaders through hands-on, real-world learning.

From the NWO hub, the five PILs available to borrow are described below.

AR/AV

ar.vr

Students can dive into the fascinating world of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) with this lab. Define what AR/VR is and uncover its immense potential to transform and improve society. Discover how AR/VR can revolutionize education, healthcare, entertainment, and more. Students will immerse themselves in the possibilities of this groundbreaking technology and become a pioneer in the future of augmented and virtual experiences.

Digital Microscopes

digitalmicroscope

The Digital Microscopes STEM Kit ignites curiosity and empowers students to explore the microscopic world with precision and ease. This cutting-edge tool enhances scientific inquiry, encouraging hands-on learning. With high-quality imaging and interactive features, it captivates young minds.

Ozobots

ozobots

Designed for K-5 students, this Portable Innovation Lab (PIL) integrates engineering and coding skills with the use of Ozobots. Activities emphasize creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork, allowing students to explore color and block coding while solving real-world-inspired problems.

Autonomous Delivery

autodelivery

The Autonomous Delivery lab blends coding proficiency and computer science skills into an educational journey for students who want to immerse themselves in coding and robotics. Students will discover how to use technology to simplify tasks using coding and experimentation with Sphero robots.

Ecological Inquiry: Story Telling

storytelling

Students participating in this Ecological Inquiry Kit will conduct schoolyard investigations in order to document the flora and fauna of the area. Students will conduct research, create storyboards, and write and illustrate a fictional story about a highlighted species that they saw while exploring. They will use the Curious Critters books to help them understand how stories are told.
