Design Challenge Kick-off

We invite area educators and administrators to attend a professional learning session with the Northwest Ohio Center of Excellence in STEM Education at BGSU, a hub of the Ohio STEM Learning Network (OSLN).

When: September 25, 2025, 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (refreshments, light lunch provided)
Where: BGSU Levis Commons, 1655 N Wilkinson Way, Perrysburg, OH 43551

Each year, the Ohio STEM Learning Network hosts a statewide design challenge where students K-12 can collaborate to create a workable solution to key issues facing our world. Any school in Ohio can participate in the challenge. The design challenge is a great starting point to begin implementing high-quality STEM education best practices in a classroom.

This session will assist educators and administrators on how to implement the Design Challenge in their classroom.

 Participants will…

1. Gain knowledge of the design thinking process
2. Explore components of this year’s design challenge with area experts
3. Develop plan for student engagement in this year’s design challenge
4. Leave with activities to take directly back to classroom

#STEMmovesOhio Design Challenge

The 2025-2026 challenge is:

• How do we improve aspects of electric transportation to advance the movement of people and things in Ohio?
• Students are tasked with developing a plan, system or product that addresses the future of electric vehicles (EVs), production facilities, batteries, drones and advanced air transportation systems within our state.

OSLN is partnering with the Ohio Manufacturers’ Association and DriveOhio to focus on employer partnerships, which are so critical for engaging students in real-life industry challenges and enhancing career awareness in K-12 classrooms. Joining forces to engage with teachers and students across the state will help to create solutions to the 2025-26 Design Challenge. Manufacturing experts will be at the Kick-Off to help answer any questions and give more information and resources on participating in the challenge while building pathways to industry.
