Campus Sustainability Week 2021 | October 18 - 23

Universities across the country are shining the spotlight on sustainability issues this month in order to spur action for change! BGSU has committed to taking a firm stance against global climate change through Objective 5 in the Strategic Plan and completing a Climate Action Plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040! Now it's your chance to learn about and get involved with sustainability at BGSU through programming across campus!

Schedule of Events

Monday, October 18 Documentary: 50 Minutes to Save the World | 8:00 PM: Education Building 207. Come watch a fascinating, short but powerful film about coral reefs and our impacts on them, climate change, and what we all can do to help the environment.
Tuesday, October 19 ReStore Special Event | 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM, ReStore (McDonald Annex): School supplies, clothing, small furniture, household items, and much more, for free! Located in the McDonald Annex, accessed off of the Offenhauer Courtyard. Masks and current BGSU ID required. Open to students, faculty and staff.

Forest Bathing | 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Van departs from Union Lot outside Starbucks at 1:45pm. Explore the connection between mindfulness and nature with this guided meditation practice at Wintergarden Park! Enjoy the great outdoors! Transportation provided. (Registration required for this event)


Wednesday, October 20 Tree Planting | 1:00 PM: Meet in front of Jerome Library by the new Veterans Memorial to help plant five trees! Tools and gloves provided. Wear closed-toe shoes.

Bike Repair & Maintenance 101 | 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM: BGSU Bike Rental Garage, 507 E. Reed (half a block from Falcon Heights residence hall). Our student bike mechanic will demonstrate and instruct you on a variety of standard bike repairs and explain various maintenance procedures. Bring your bike if you have one. (Registration required for this event)


Thursday, October 21 Waste Reduction Workshop | 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM: Union Tables (bottom of the big stairway). Learn how to lesson your impact on the Earth by making a few simple items, including laundry soap, reusable beeswax wraps and other reusable items.
  Vegan Taste Testing | 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM: Oaks Dining Center Green Roof (accessed by the doors for Einstein Bros. Bagels). Sample vegan food in a cool and “green” outdoor setting on the roof of the Oaks Dining Center and learn about the benefits of going vegan for you and for the environment!
  Environmental Careers Night | 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM: Education Building 115. Hear from a panel of recent BGSU alumni about their exciting and diverse careers in the environmental field. Something for everyone! Sponsored by the Environmental Action Group.
Friday, October 22 Friday Night Lights (special Sustainability Week Edition!) | 6:30 PM: Meet outside the Union Theatre to turn off lights around campus, save electricity and reduce our carbon footprint. It’s fun and you’ll meet lots of new people! Bring a friend!
Saturday, October 23

Green Game Day | Various shifts available throughout the day, Doyt Perry Stadium: Help BGSU Athletics and Campus Sustainability reduce waste at the BG/Eastern Michigan football game by handing out recycling bags and setting up equipment. (Registration required for this event)
