Campus Sustainability Week 2022 | October 15 - 22
Universities across the country are shining the spotlight on sustainability issues this month in order to spur action for change! BGSU has committed to taking a firm stance against global climate change through Objective 5 in the Strategic Plan and completing a Climate Action Plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040! Now it's your chance to learn about and get involved with sustainability at BGSU through programming across campus!

Saturday, October 15 | Green Game Day | Doyt L. Perry Stadium Join us to kickoff Sustainability Week at the football game against Miami. Volunteers will drive golf carts, interact with the BGSU community, help distribute recycling bags and pick up full bags. Reduce waste, increase recycling and have fun! Monday, October 17 | Gold is Green: Tour of The Oaks Dining Center | Teaching Kitchen | 6:30 PM You might be familiar with the fantastic food at The Oaks Dining Center on campus, but we bet you don't know the extent of how the building is environmentally designed and LEED Gold certified! Join us for a sustainability presentation of the building and rooftop garden. Participants will also have the opportunity to try some smoothie samples courtesy of Chef Jenna! |

Tuesday, October 18 | Fracking Film Screening | Olscamp Hall 221 | 6:30 PM Don't be "fossil fooled" by this environmentally disruptive form of natural gas extraction! Join us for a screening of the award-winning fracking documentary "Triple Divide Redacted" followed by a discussion with BGSU's own Dr. Andy Kear who is featured in the film. Fracking has detrimental side-effects to the plant and people. The film explores the issue and focuses on the themes of water conservation, environmental quality, and human health. Light refreshments will be provided. |

Wednesday, October 19 | Tree Planting Service Project | Alumni Mall | 1:00 PM Fall is tree planting season, and what is more sustainable than a beautiful tree? We need volunteers to join in the planting of multiple trees. Your impact will serve to sequester carbon and produce oxygen for years to come at BGSU. Wednesday, October 19 | Lake Erie Sediments: Helping Farm Soil Health Restoration | Kuhlin Center 208 | 5:15 PM Toxic algal blooms are a big problem for Northwest Ohio. Can farmers prevent runoff pollution and still fertilize their soil? New research may offer the solution! Join us for a presentation by BGSU's own Dr. Angelica Vazquez-Ortega as she shares her findings. Dr. Vázquez-Ortega research aims to identify the effects of lake dredged sediment as farm soil amendment on soil health, crop yield, inorganic and organic contaminants bioaccumulation in grains and nutrient export into waterways. |

Thursday, October 20 | ReStore and Eco Crafts | McDonald Hall Annex | 11:30 PM - 2:30 PM The wait is over! Swing by to visit the Campus ReStore, our very own thrift store at BGSU. There will be a $3 cover charge for all participants.The store will be open to shop for our gently used goods. While you visit, we'll have eco-friendly crafts and have discussions about how the ReStore plays an important role to divert waste from the landfill. |

Friday, October 22 | Friday Night Lights | Student Union 2nd Floor Lobby | 6:30 PM Ready, Set, Lights Out! It's the kickoff of Friday Night Lights, an energy reduction program where volunteers turn off lights in academic buildings. In honor of Campus Sustainability Week, we'll be hosting a scavenger hunt along the way. Teams will be fairl formed prior to the start. The team that collects all the puzzle pieces first wins Starbucks gift cards and bragging rights as the fastest energy savers on campus! |

All Week | Take a walking sustainability tour at your leisure. Look for the orange A-frame signs throughout campus October 17-21, with informative environmental messages about our buildings, landscapping, operations and outdoor features. |
