We encourage undergraduate students to explore opportunities to serve on USG through our application process. Students who apply or would like to learn more are encouraged to attend a required information session to hear from current USG members, ask questions and learn about the application process.

How to apply for BGSU Undergraduate Student Government?

If you're passionate about student advocacy and ready to lead, the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) is your opportunity to represent your peers and make an impact on campus. All you need to do is apply through the form and attend one of the required information sessions.

USG application requirements
All BGSU undergraduate students are welcome to apply, and voting is based off of the undergraduate student body. 

In order for your application to qualify, you must:

  1. Submit the application by the deadline
  2. Attend one (1) information session
  3. Be a full time student in good standing
  4. Have a 2.5 minimum GPA
  5. Be a member of the constituency group applying to represent 

If you meet all requirements, you will be automatically eligible to run. You will receive an email by 10 a.m. on March 26 if you are ineligible to run.

More Detailed Application Guildelines

1. All candidates must attend one Election Information session.  If a candidate has a time conflict with the Information Session dates, then candidate must make other arrangements with the Chief Administrator. Written documentation will be needed to show that all dates/times are conflicted.

2. Candidates must be full time undergraduate students, in good standing with the University, as outlined in the BGSU Student Handbook.  Candidates must also have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.

3. For senator positions, a candidate must reside among the constituents, or be a member of the college, he/she/they wishes to represent.

4. All candidates seeking senator seats in the General Assembly are required to submit a candidate information form.

5. Each President/Vice President ticket must submit a candidate information form.

6. As part of the online candidate information form, candidates digitally sign their petition for candidacy, by signing the petition, candidate agrees all information submitted is honest to the best of their knowledge.

7. ALL candidates must, via the Candidate Information Form, signify that they have read the election packet in its entirety. By digitally signing the Candidate Information Form, the candidate agrees to abide by this all rules, procedures, and guidelines included in this packet.  Failure to abide by this packet will result in discipline which will be determined by the Procedures and Appeals Board. This online application is due by 9 a.m. on March 24. By fulfilling these requirements, candidates will be permitted to appear on the ballot.

NO late submissions will be accepted.  NO EXCEPTIONS.

8. Candidates may turn in a statement of 100 words or less about their platform to be posted on the USG website.  This is not a required part to the application process unless applying for President or Vice president.

9. If you have applied and are eligible to run, you may begin campaigning at noon on March 26

10.  If you meet all requirements, you will be automatically eligible to run. You will receive an email by 10 a.m. on
March 26 if you are ineligible to run.
