Community Description:
This semester-long community invites you to explore the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), using a similarly named text from Nancy L. Chick as a guide. Each virtual synchronous meeting will focus on a core aspect of SoTL to develop meaningful research questions, plan methods to collect data, and share results through informal or formal ways of presentation or writing. Designed for educators who are new to SoTL or seeking to deepen their engagement, the community hopes to foster reflection, networking, and skill-building in a supportive, collegial environment. By the end of the semester, you will have a clearer understanding of SoTL as both a personal practice and a collaborative scholarly endeavor that enriches, across many disciplines, teaching and learning.
Community Learning Outcomes:
By participating in this community, you will be able to:
- Identify meaningful, inquiry-based questions that emerge from your own teaching contexts and experiences, grounded in the principles of SoTL
- Recognize key methodological and ethical considerations in scholarly teaching connected to existing SoTL literature and research traditions.
- Select appropriate methods for gathering and analyzing evidence of student learning, including qualitative and quantitative approaches
- Create a plan to collect, analyze, and use data to inform your teaching.
- Develop strategies for communicating and disseminating SoTL findings effectively to diverse audiences within and beyond your institutions.
Participant Expectations:
As a member of this community, you are expected to:
- Meet the community learning outcomes.
- Attend and actively participate in at least 5 out of the scheduled 6 virtual meetings
- Complete any assignments and/or asynchronous tasks.
- Complete any necessary deliverable activities or projects as determined by the facilitator.
