University survey process revised; faculty, staff asked to review new procedures

BGSU review committee releases new guidelines

Surveys are an important tool at Bowling Green State University to collect data from students, faculty and staff for a variety of reasons. They include informing educational programs and instructional practice, evaluating meaningful initiatives and institutional priorities, providing important insights and collecting data to address a variety of questions.

As such, there are a lot of different surveys sent to the campus community throughout the year. Some come from internal constituents and others come from outside organizations. As a result, there are certain times during the academic year where the learning community is inundated with surveys.

In spring 2019, a survey process review committee was formed to look at the current guidelines for how surveys were administered to BGSU students, faculty and staff. As a result of the committee’s work, the Procedures for BGSU Faculty, Staff, and Student Surveys has been revised. All students, faculty and staff who administer surveys are asked to please review these procedures and fill out the request form for those surveys that require additional review. Additionally, the University community is asked to review the required institutional surveys schedule and note the times of these surveys to avoid sending additional surveys to the same audiences during the same time frame.

Should you have questions about conducting surveys and the process, please reach out directly to Dr. Jessica Turos, associate director, Office of Academic Assessment, at jmturos@bgsu.edu.
