The Higher Education Opportunity Act of 1965 requires institutions participating in federally funded financial aid programs to make information about the institution available to the public, current and prospective students, current and prospective student loan borrowers, and current employees. Bowling Green State University is committed to the principle of promoting access to information that will allow consumers to make informed decisions about post-secondary education. In accordance to the federal disclosure requirements, the following links provide readily accessible consumer information to current and prospective students, parents, employees and the university community. You are also entitled to a paper copy of any of the information contained in these links. Professional Licensure | Professional Licensure Information | The U.S. Department of Education requires institutions to identify the states for which the institution has made a determination of whether a program’s curriculum meets the state educational requirements for licensure or certification in the states where students are located and provide notification of the outcome of these determinations. This requirement applies to educational programs that are designed to meet educational requirements for a specific professional licensure or certification that is required by a state for employment in an occupation. However, state requirements are subject to change and to interpretation by state regulators. In addition, state licensure boards and agencies may require applicants to meet additional requirements beyond completion of an educational program in order to obtain professional licensure or certification. Students should contact the state licensure board or agency in the state in which they intend to work in order to learn more about the requirements for professional licensure and certification in the state before beginning a program at the University. | |
State Authorizations | State Authorizations | Universities are required to comply with the distance education laws of each individual state. If you are an out-of-state student seeking to enroll in an online program at BGSU, or if you are an online student considering moving to another state, you should check BGSU’s status with that state. Participating in a program not authorized by your state could result in loss of ability to transfer credits. BGSU is approved by the Ohio Department of Higher Education to participate in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA). Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) | Many offices at BGSU collect and maintain information about students. Although these records belong to the university, both university policy and federal law accord students a number of rights concerning these records. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records by establishing rules and regulations for access and disclosure of student records. Complaints Procedures | Depending on the nature/type of complaints, the following offices may be contacted: The University encourages students and prospective students to address complaints relating to institutional policies and consumer protection issues first with personnel in the office, department or college that led to the complaint alleged. If needed, senior university administrators may also become involved to help resolve complaints. Students may also contact the University’s accreditor regarding complaints involving the quality of instruction or the institution’s ongoing ability to meet its accreditation requirements. Private Student Loan Information/ Loan Repayment Resources | The federal government mandates that students withdrawing from all classes may keep only the financial aid (federal "Title IV" grant and loan assistance) they have "earned" up to the time of withdrawal. Funds paid in excess of the earned amount must be returned by the university and/or the student. Students who have withdrawn will be reviewed to ensure that all eligible aid will be included in the calculation, with the exception of eligible, but undisbursed, federal loans.
