Senate Committee on Professional Affairs

PURPOSE

The Senate's Committee on Professional Affairs (FS-CPA) purpose is to focus on issues external to the University that affect the profession of teaching and the value and mission of higher education in society. Specifically, the CPA shall perform an advisory function to the Faculty Senate about important developments related to the professional role of educators in society at the local. state, and national level. The Committee will perform an educational role to the faculty and to the University community at large about professional issues that affect educators and advise and assist the Faculty Senate with media and governmental affairs relationships. The CPA will also initiate studies, or conduct studies at the request of the Faculty Senate on issues relevant to professional affairs and will receive suggestions and make recommendations to the Senate Executive Committee on issues relevant to professional affairs.

MEMBERSHIP

The CPA shall be compose of twelve members:

  1. six members shall be elected by the Faculty Senate to serve staggered three-year terms
  2. two members shall be appointed for one-year terms by the SEC
  3. one member shall, within his/her first four years at BGSU, be appointed for a one-year term by the Committee on Committees
  4. one member selected by the USG and one member selected by the GSS
  5. the elected member of the Ohio Faculty Council Delegation (OFC) shall serve ex-officio will full vote
  6. one additional ex-officio, non-voting member appointed by the President to come from the administration
  7. a non-voting representative invited from each of the following organizations: Administrative Staff Council, Classified Staf Council, and the BGSU Retirees Association
  8. at least one new member shall be a Faculty Senator
  9. at no time shall there be more than two members who are faculty members from any given academic unit

Positions on the committee are filled through annual elections in the Spring semester. Vacancies are filled by appointment by the Committee on Committees for a period of up to one year.
