Given Ohio's event restrictions and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's recommendations to combat the spread of COVID-19, BGSU must reschedule our spring, summer and fall commencement ceremonies for a later date.

Even though the celebratory commencement event will be rescheduled, your degree will be awarded upon completion of your academic requirements at the conclusion of the semester.

While in-person commencement exercises have been delayed, they are not canceled. When we do host in-person ceremonies, our 2020 graduates will have an invitation to participate. Please continue to check your BGSU email and the commencement website for further updates.

Frequently Asked Questions

We are adjusting our plans for 2020 from in-person commencement ceremonies to online virtual celebrations. If you have additional questions, please email

The virtual celebration will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at 1 p.m. EST. Graduates, family and friends can view the livestream at or Facebook Live. After the livestream, the celebration will available at the commencement website. There is no need to register for this virtual event.

A virtual celebration is an opportunity for the University to celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2020 on the originally scheduled date. During this celebration, you will hear from President Rogers, the chair of the Board of Trustees, and some of our most notable alumni. The virtual celebration does not replace a future in-person commencement ceremony.

After the livestream, videos of graduate names separated by college will be available to view at the commencement website.

Due to print and recording deadlines, we may not be able to include late graduate applicants. The program and naem deadline is approximately 3 weeks prior to the celebration. The name recording deadline is approximately 2 weeks prior to the celebration. If you have any questions, please contact

As the celebration is not meant to take the place of a commencement ceremony, graduates do not need to purchase regalia. However, if graduates would like to purchase a cap and gown, orders may be placed online from Falcon Outfitters or Jostens.

Undergraduates will be mailed their Latin Honors cords at least 2 weeks prior to the celebration. Visit the Academic Honors page for more information and direct any questions to or the Office of Registration and Records at 419-372-8441.

A printed diploma, diploma cover and commencement program will be mailed to each graduate approximately 3-5 weeks following the celebration. An email to claim a digital version of the diploma will be sent to the graduate’s BGSU email within 1-3 weeks after the celebration. Please note that transcripts will not be available until 3 weeks after the celebration, provided you have completed all degree requirements.

Each degree candidate is confirmed by the candidate’s academic college. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure all degree requirements are fulfilled via their MyBGSU degree audit. Colleges may communicate via BGSU email regarding outstanding requirements that would delay the confirmation of a degree.

Please direct questions regarding diplomas to or the Office of Registration and Records at 419-372-8441.

In light of current restrictions on public gatherings, we are not able to set a date at this time. However, the University is fully committed to celebrating in person when it safe and practical to do so. When we do host in-person commencement ceremonies, you will have an invitation to participate. Please continue to check your BGSU email and the commencement website for future updates.

As you celebrate your big day, we’ve put together digital fun to help you show your Falcon pride.
