NEW! Fire Service Exercise Design & Facilitation: Train as You Fight
Classroom date:
May 11-12 , 2026
8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Description
“The first time shouldn’t be during the real thing.”
When disaster strikes, responders are expected to perform even under the most unpredictable conditions. But how do we train for events that may only happen once in a career? This highly interactive two-day course equips fire service professionals with the tools to design and conduct practical training exercises that sharpen decision-making, strengthen teamwork, and foster operational confidence.
Using the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) as a foundation, participants will learn to develop practical tabletop exercises, write effective injects, facilitate discussions, and conduct hotwashes and after-action reviews that lead to real-world improvements. Whether planning for hazardous materials, mass-casualty incidents, large-scale fires, or complex rescue operations, this course will demonstrate how structured practice enables responders to be faster, safer, and better prepared for both rare and routine situations.
Students will leave with ready-to-use templates, example scenarios, and facilitation skills that they can immediately apply in their departments, even if they’ve never designed an exercise before.
Target Audience: Fire Officers, Training Officers, Company Officers, Chief Officers, Emergency Managers, and anyone involved in training, planning, or departmental leadership.
