Winter 2023 Dean's Message Jan 6, 2023 4:01 PM As I reflect on my first semester as Dean of the Schmidthorst College of Business, I would like to start by thanking all of you who have reached out over the past semester to welcome me to this wonderful community. Your insights, guidance and support have made this transition so much easier and have confirmed my initial thoughts on the special environment that I have been granted the opportunity to lead. I know many of you have been able to attend some of the many events we hosted this fall, but for those who were not able to make it to campus, I will share some of the highlights.

Alumni Spotlight: Peggy Schmeltz, Former Chair of the Board of Directors for the National Association of Investors Corporation and Community Philanthropist Jan 6, 2023 3:07 PM Peggy Schmelz was an inspiration to many in Bowling Green and the surrounding region, not just for her amazing business career, but for her dedication and impact to serving her community. She was an advocate for lifelong education and giving back to the community. On Dec. 10, 2022, Schmelz passed away surrounded by her family.

Research Impact: Doctoral Students Publish on Critical Issues for the Public Good Jan 6, 2023 10:30 AM Just three years ago, the doctorate in organization development and change (DODC) was launched in the Schmidthorst College of Business and has quickly become the most inquired about graduate program at BGSU. The reason for this success is the program’s emphasis on professional joy through thought leadership in service of transforming organizations, revitalizing communities and developing human potential.

Welcome Kurstyn Loeffler – Director, Paul J. Hooker Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership Jan 4, 2023 10:05 AM Kurstyn Loeffler steps into the role as director of the Paul J. Hooker Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership with a lifelong passion for and expertise in entrepreneurship. She has been involved in the world of entrepreneurship for nearly 20 years, managing a brick-and-mortar retail store after graduating college and then purchasing, owning and operating that business. Simultaneously, she worked as the assistant director of the Family Business Center at the University of Toledo, providing resources and educational opportunities to family and privately held businesses within the community.

Research Impact: The Impact on Coworkers of Working With a Narcissist Jan 4, 2023 9:46 AM This fall, Dr. Truit Gray published research titled “Coworker narcissism: Employee emotional and behavioral reactions as moderated by bottom-line mentality and trait competitiveness” in the Journal of Management (Financial Times top 50). In the research study, Dr. Gray and his coauthors examined the impact that working with a narcissistic coworker has on an employee’s emotions and behavioral intentions.

Schmidthorst College of Business Student Earns First Place in Fall 2022 International Capsim Competition Jan 3, 2023 11:59 AM BGSU Schmidthorst College of Business student Reece Stammen, a student focusing on information systems, recently earned first place in the Fall 2022 Capsim Challenge. Stammen’s achievement marks the 11th semester in a row a BGSU student has earned finalist status in this international competition. BGSU has more Challenge finalists (16) than any other university worldwide. Stammen competed in the daylong finals event against students from top universities across the world.
