10 Years of Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship Week (E-Week) at BGSU is the most significant annual event for the Allen W. and Carol M. Schmidthorst College of Business. Each April, the college hosts entrepreneurial leaders from around the world to share their experience and expertise through presentations and other events including The Hatch, the Paul J. Hooker Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership Hall of Fame and the Sebo Series in Entrepreneurship. Several E-Week events are open to the general public.

E-Week is also a time to showcase the accomplishments of students, recognize alumni and have some fun. Each year, the programming is developed around a central theme, and the theme for 2022 is Turning Lemons into Lemonade, inspired by the book "Plato's Lemonade Stand: Stirring Change into Something Great" by the Sebo Series in Entrepreneurship keynote speaker, Tom Morris.

Our events in 2022 mark the 10th annual E-Week, and as we Hatch deals, honor new Hall of Fame inductees and learn how successful entrepreneurs Turn Lemons into Lemonade, we are also celebrating the last decade by reflecting on all that we have accomplished.

It’s hard to believe that soon we will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of E-Week. The past nine years have flown by, and along the way, I've collected a lot of memories that I will forever cherish. 

Being a mentor to the budding student entrepreneurs who have participated in The Hatch has been supremely gratifying for me. So many of them have told me it was the best experiential event of their time at BGSU. I’m very much looking forward to meeting our 2022 student entrepreneurs and hearing what this year’s experience will mean to them and their future.

As much as I have been a mentor, I've also been a student of E-Week, and each year, I am thrilled at all that I am able to take away from this very special week. I’m quite proud to be affiliated with a university that celebrates entrepreneurship and puts so much effort into supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs by helping them to realize their full potential.

Paul J. Hooker is the retired CEO of SFERRA Fine Linens, a luxury bedding, bath, and home decor store based in Edison, New Jersey. 
Hooker graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and was inducted in the Entrepreneurial Leadership Hall of Fame in 2012.

E-Week at BGSU is filled with a host of events including The Hatch, the Paul J. Hooker Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership Hall of Fame, and our grand finale, the Sebo Series in Entrepreneurship. 2022 Entrepreneur in Residence

GB 2004 Worlds 239Mark Berman, CEO of CompliGlobe, will serve as our E-Week 2022 Entrepreneur in Residence. He will be available to discuss innovations and entrepreneurial ideas with BGSU students.

Mark will be available April 18-20, 2022, from 2 – 5pm

  • Earned his B.A. and MFA from BGSU 
  • Successful career in financial services regulation law and compliance and international sports
  • Published books and articles on financial services regulation and hedge funds
  • Founded, coached, managed and played for the Great Britain Men’s National Softball Team (1995-2005, coach in 2018)
  • Helped re-write the rules of softball used in the Tokyo Olympics and was a Tokyo Olympic softball official (Jury of Appeal)
  • Dedicates a significant amount of time to pro bono work
  • Makes having fun a priority
  • A huge fan of SiFi novels
